Car looks great Laz. I know you are glad to have it back on the road. I hope it was worth the wait. I hope to gat caught up and get back to work on my engine. The last Southeastern Bug Fair was the last time both our cars were out together. Time sure can slip away.
Get that car out there and make us proud.

hey laz what kind of decklid is that i like how the trim is

Lazarus
August 16th 2009, 13:24
its a deck from a 71 i think. oasis will be able to correct me if im wrong. the trim is from a mexi-beetle b/c the apron is removable. so i deleted the c-channels for the stock seal.my only problem with the current seal is when i got it i cut it into three sections so it would fit around the tabs. i wish i would have slit it instead to fit over the tabs b/c it falls off every so often. really all i need to do is order a new seal , but im too lazy.

Yes, the decklid would be from a '71 sedan in the Super Beetle realm. (The '71 Super convertible had its own unique lid in a 7-7-7-7 louver pattern before VW switched to a 7-6-6-7 pattern for all German- and Mexican-built Beetles and Super Beetles.) The decklid like Laz's was also used on the '71 standard Beetle.

I don't know standards nearly as well but I believe they were used some from 1968-70 also. Perhaps, they were used on convertibles. (Earlier lids had that louver pattern for 'verts only but the lid itself was different.)

I remember Jake Raby said once he liked that lid the best with the DTM. I think it had something do to with the louvers being longer and more centered even though there were fewer columns of them. I do know none of my four cylinder head temps ever approached a high temp much less a critical one.

I also like the looks of the lid. :p

What seats do you have in there? Any pics?

They look super comfy.

Lazarus

those seats are scat procar rally seats. they are quiet comfy if you are a distinct shape and size. i wish i would have done the vinyl b/c the velor has started to fade on the drivers side. i will say on hot days the velor are nicer to the backside than the vinyl.i guess i can always redye the velor.
