Well heres my GL project i think been doing it a couple of years now
started probably the wrong way round with the engine a 2007cc with porsche fan twinn 44's all the usual stuff

fitted up a porsche 901 5spd

Cleaned it all up give it a coat of paint then fitted up some old 944 brakes all round would like some brembos but cant afford them

did all the usual repairs heater chanels rear cross members etc also fitted som HIPACS for easy access to carbs and plugs
I must addd that agood mate of mine Paul did most of the welding

After all body work was sorted it was time for paint

so built myself a spray booth in back garden sorry bought a 6x3m gazebo and used that

Madnees Pure and Simple! I hope to get my baby painted soon. But have to sell my 914 Chalon first. To pay for the paint that I want. The law would decsend upon me if I even lifted my praint gun for primer?

just came to my mind: are you gonna use those led turn signals with the stock bug flasher relay? I don't think it's gonna work as it's supposed to.

Thanks all for kind remarks and support i am building this on a tight budget at the moment but have most bits to finish
i do have a scat interior to go in but i think i may change for something else

in total the paint job cost me about £250 including spray booth "Gazebo " which worked really well i did have a bit of help from my good friend Paul painting it well he did the roof and mixed the paint i did the rest as he is taller than me

I will update with pics when more progress is made

Yes i was going to i think its got all the bits built in to work but not sure as i have not tried them yet they are for a Golf

whaat do yo think the problem would be not to good on electrics

You've done a real kick ass job so far, those pictures spell out the hark work you've put into it for those who have done it themselves. I can't wait to see more progress!

As for the flasher relay, if you don't change out the stock relay the lights will blink very fast. What you need to get is a relay specifically for LED lights which can be found online fairly cheap.

Budgets are usually tight. But some thing usually eat up most of the cost. I have at least 6 (SIX) Grand already tied up in engine parts and work alone, and most done by me. http://www.germanlook.net/forums/album.php?albumid=22 Guess i will have to get a gazebo and learn how to paint. just so i can stay on whats left in my budget.

Thats going to be one hell of a motor would love that
Was going to turbo it but changed mind. Will go with 10:1 CR and 51mm throttle body fuel injection. Not a daily driver you see! :o There is a portion of fan that Porsche uses to route air over the cylinders more effectively, but is left out on most conversions. Will have to be trimmed and adujsted for type 1-4 use but well worth the effort. I will scan you a pic of the part so you will see what I am talking about.Part# 18 on the attached pic

i have fitted an oil cooler in my fan housing type 1 remember without modding the fan housing
wher i live a guy near me flys vw powered planes and he use to make the adaptors which i managed to get one of him to retain std cooler also running thermostat and external cooler with mine just hope it will be ok i have ran it up on my test bed and did seem ok

That's a sweet test bed. Without any shrouding for the oil-cooler, I'd be concerned about airflow. Path of least resistance is around the oil-cooler, not through it.

Hi

Nice looking motor.

I have about 2,000 ks on a motor in my daily driver/sons car. Its a 1904cc, stock valve heads, mild cam, twin 40 Dells etc.

I got rid of the stock cooler and fitted a cooler in the front of the car, doesn't overheat on 30 C plus days, highway or heavy peak hour traffic and warms up quick, I have a fan on it for insurance but its hardly ever needed.

Its fitted behind grille in the front apron, but the Kamei blocks it, I'm reluctant to cut the Kamei so the fan is sometimes needed at high speeds.

The point I'm trying to make is if your internal cooler doesn't work to well, make sure you fit the external one in a good place.

Hi Steve thanks for advice i do also have an external one fitted with thermostat plumbed in but will be somewhere like above gearbox as dont have option of putting up front like on an 03 model so i hope it will run ok

OK been a while on up dates been busy mainly doing electrics and tidying up bits etc so i thought it was time to try and put the motor in
had a problem with the lower engine studs as they appear to short to go through the Porsche box so need longer ones i think type 2 ones are longer but if anyone can put me right on this i would appreciate it :)
