appears to be decent quality, i like it more than the berg, T handle just seems strange to me
in the big scheme of things the price is similar...

Jake Raby has one in his wifes '79 GL vert. Had it for a few months now. They seem to be happy with it.

One of the local guys has this one. He loves it. Once I drove with it I was thinking of selling my Berg. Short throw and feels like it was made from one piece of metal. Not too sure yet on the durability of the throw out mechanism for the reverse lock out. Also the shift knob can get frosty I am making a leather cover for his.You can but it direct plus they have loads of good stuff on the web site.

I spent some time looking at shifters including this Black Mamba with the purpose of getting a quicker shift with a speedy reverse acquisition and more importantly angling the lever back for a more ergonomic design but all of the lever/pulls for the reverse lockout were ergonomically 'challenged' for ultra quick reverse selection. The Black Mamba comes close but I can see sore fingers in the heat of competition (autotesting). The bug@5speed is the best designed shifter in this respect but at a price. In desparation I have modded a standard and cheap quickshift although I need a spring loading into the 3/4 plane.

Hi

I'm using a Type 3 bent shifter with a quick shift in my sons 1303 and I also had one in my old 1302, cheap and cheerful.

You need to put slot in your shift rod like early cars have.

I've tried them all, and this is my favorite. Hands down. Functionality, looks and even price. Take time to set it up properly and it will serve you well.

AlexUntil the little rod breaks that controls the reverse lock out. And it will.

It's just .040"(if memory serves..) music wire, not a tough item to change. If your using a 40+ year old shifter, I'd consider it maintenance.;)

The Empi knock offs are decent too. I've got one in my car right now while I work on machining a custom "hybrid" Hurst (bronze bushings, incorporated line lock button mount etc)

They ALL have their shortcomings, but for value and functionality you cannot beat the Hurst.

Everyone has their preference though,

I run the empi knock-off shifter in my race car and love it. I know Jack Van Wettering ran one in his race bug as well. I've had the same shifter since 2000, in 2 race cars and now my street bug without problems.

I have tried the Berg (hated it. mostly the "T" handle), the Hurst (great shifter), Scat drag fast (hated it) and the CSP (fantastic shifter). I have just tried the best bolt in shifter that I have ever put my hands on. It ain't cheap but it's B/A.

I bought one and haven't used it yet. I like it. Looks and feels like a quality part.

Nice shifter Dave. Looks great.

I use a Hurst shifter with no complaints in my super:
