Stuffing 17s under my '69

Hello everyone, this is my first post on GL.net
I've just started working on a 1969 Beetle. I love the German look, and that's how I plan to do it up. Obviously to get the desired look I need a lowered suspension and big rims...
I bought a 3" narrowed/ adjustable beam for the front. I'm going to run ghia disks up front. I also have a beautiful set of 17x7 rims in my garage.

The lug pattern is 4x100, so I'll have to run adapters. I really have my heart set on these rims, but I know they wont fit without some ingenuity.
I plan to make the adapters which will double as spacers, but could anyone point me in the direction as to how wide my spacers will need to be?
Is there anyone else with a similar set up?
It's kind of like a father/son project, but my dad doesn't seem to get "the look", and is really pessimistic about running these wheels on a bug. I know I've seen people run 17x7" wide rims, and even wider, but they're just doesn't seem to be enough space under that little bug fender.

Any help on the matter would be extremely appriciated:D

It's good to hear about another 69!

I have a 69. You don't need adapters for those wheels. Just do your narrowed front end, and have the rotors drilled with your bolt pattern. Same with the rear drums or discs. I'm using Ghia front disks and drums on the rear.

I was thinking of just pressing in studs to the rotors, but looking at the old set I have, there seems to be varying heights in the thickness of metal between the studs. The metal is thickest where the stock bolt holes are. I figured that would be a problem.
Adapters just seemed to make sense, because I believe I'm going to have to run some type of spacer anyways. I put one of the rims up to the rear drum and even with no rubber, it's touching the bump stop. Mind you, the car isn't lowered yet, so it will probably be even tighter after the drop.
It's just a little discerning :confused:
How do you people stuff those big wheels under these little cars?! :lmao:

Airsick - I just saw some pics of your car... BEAUTIFUL! My '69 is also white :)
Are you running spacers? I suppose the drop spindles would kick out the track anywho (i don't plan to run drop spindles though)

hey and welcome...

I would put Drop spindles on if you are only running a adj Beam to fix the Camber angles and the BEST way to go would to buy Blank rotoreds and Drums and re-drill them and put a 12mm Stud in. you can get blank rotors from cip1.com

I went and ordered some 4x100 rotors :)
the 4x100 rear drums were out of stock... maybe next time.


Edit: I found out the offset on those rims is 45mm...

et45 will be a perfect fit for the back
ive got et40 17x7 on the back of mine with 215/40 and they just tuck nicely

I'm running 17x7 ET42 on my 72 super. Stock fenders.
