Hi everyone! It had been 5 to 6 years since my last post here.Let me show my
1303. This car had been in our house since new, I get it when I was at high school. Then I went to college and post graduate studies on it. It stopped to be my daily driver in 1997, when I began to transform it until 2005. Since then I had not worked on it until last week!

Thanks for the words! I live in Puerto Rico. Believe it or not Steve, but you were the one who bring me to the German Look! How? The 1303 was to be built as a Sleeper, then a late night in 1997 I was searching the net when link after link I ended on your page. After that I never looked back!!!:D

Hi

I'm glad that I had that influence on you, you certainly have jumped in the deep end. What are your plans for the motor, it looks like it will stop and handle well

I'm thinking about doing my new 1303 in Orange as well.

Thanks! Well the engine was bought before the German Look. It is a 86x90.5 from Gene Berg. Then the look came and received a little of it. Here is a picture of it. But right now I installed the original 1600 so I can work on the suspension and brakes polishing.

Hi Ricola! The front are 2.5 inches and the rear 3 inches. The front grill/hole was for the condenser of the air. Not sure if I will finally use it.

Had been a little since I resume the work on the 1303. Had not been able to do much. A lot of cleaning, adjusting and electrical work. At least is moving now. Some pictures of it after the cleaning and a couple of bits I received.

Thanks for the compliments. Still a lot of work to do.
The mirrors were bought around 10 years ago. Really
not remember the name, but were cheap. They look similar
to the Vitaloni Sebring. If not wrong I get those from a
Mini Truck magazine.:)

How do the caster plates work for you, do you have any problems with them slipping? I'd thought about something similar but that was my worry...

Rich

onixbonilla
January 11th 2011, 20:58
Hi Ricola! Your Cab is coming very, very good looking!
With all the mixed parts I used on the front suspension it ended with
a lot of positive caster, so I made those plates. Right now is spot on.
Really after the plates had not drive to much on street, but not problem yet. If I detect slippage I will build a not slidding/adjustable clamp.

Hi

I've never seen 20s work has well as they have on your car.

The cars with 20s often looked jacked up or like a paying mantis.

Getting the stance on the front makes it look right I think, the top of the tyre is up inside the fender/wing/mudguard lip that's what does it.

Steve

onixbonilla
April 8th 2011, 22:09
Thanks Steve. You are right, how good a car looks depends on the stance. The relation of fenders/tire and rake front/rear makes or destroy it. I build the front 8 inches wide, but should build them 7 and reduce the front lip. So the front tire would be farter from the fender lip and the car front could be pushed down more. Also the the Spoiler helps on this.

Here you can see a car with 19inches at the same show.

Mine with 20inches, I reckon 19inches at front would make it look better.

man, your car is amazing! One of the cars on this forum, that I just can't stop staring at the pics of it :)
I was wondering what is the front tire dimension on the 20inch wheels? I guess I could use a taller tire in order to be able to install the kamei front spoiler... right now it would be hanging just too low.

Hi Steve! The front wheels are too wide to the fenders, so owner can not get down the nose. Tall tires not help too much!

Hi Xellex! You are not alone, me too!!! :D Thanks for the compliments!
I always like to read about your work because you do your work as I always used to do on mine. Buying parts, installing, modifying, etc!
My car suffered what you realized some time ago. With so many agresive modifications it ended been unpractical on the streets!
Right now will like to return some practicallity for the streets. Thinking of downsizing the wheels and more comfort suspension. So will like to know your experience with the LAPerformance struts?
The front tires are 225-30-20.:)

Xellex
April 16th 2011, 21:14
Hmm so your tire size would give 23mm more radius than what I have right now (205/40/17) which looks nice but is too damn low. Right now with the kamei spoiler on, I have 3-4cm ground clearance. What I have in mind is a 215/45/17 tire for the front. I think I could get away with it then.
About the LA Performance fron suspension, all I can say is that it's a great kit, awesome on the street also, thanks to the adjustability, but the downside in my case is that I can't adjust it a bit higher... I mean in the highest setting, it's still too low... I could use about 3-4centimeter more. But maybe I'm doing something wrong :P

onixbonilla
April 16th 2011, 21:57
Thanks. I am seriuosly considering those struts. Unfortunatelly load work had not allowed me work on the projects.
On the Kamei, I would made a shorter one on fiberglass based on the original one.:)

Xellex
April 17th 2011, 08:48
yeah that's probably the best idea, considering that I've been meaning to start playing with some carbon fibre, to see if I could make something out of it or not :)

Had been more than a year since we began to work on the engine. The work was veeeery slowly but we finally did it. The present engine configuration is as follows:
Berg 86 crank
Carrillo 5.5 rods
90.5 Bergs
Berg 870 heads
Berg 311/FK10 cam
Berg 1 5/8 header
NOS Dellorto 48 Tri Jets
Type 4 oil cooler
009 Pertronix
Stock modified cooling

I must say it needs some tunning but is it running a lot better that expected. I am just enjoying it before any further tunning. Every time I drove on the streets it gets compliments even money offers for it!!!
