It looks very interesting!
Front diff is from WRX also?
You've flipped the diff in the gearbox without problems?
What is the weight of the engine/transmission/front diff?
Keep it going! Cool ride

Very interesting project! Where did you buy the gearbox conversion kit for use as a rear engine? How much did it cost?

I bet a lot of us had dreamed of this before! Been owner of a 2004 STI and 2008 Legacy I can attest the 4WD virtues! Will follow from begining to finish! Also noted that you have a rising custom VW parts bussiness, maybe from your learning you can bring to the market some parts to made this conversion easier!!!:)

I'm not 100% but I thought that the subbies favored the rear wheels, which now is the front. I think its going to be a front bias system

A centre diff controller should fix that. But i'm not sure how much power that will allow you to send to the front (now rear) diff, a 50/50 split may be all it would give?
AWDVW Awesome!
I plan on using one of the reverse cut ring and pinions in a sti 5 speed box in my 69. Sti powered offcourse:cool:

F4P, are you making camber plates that work with the 1303?
F4P
January 25th 2011, 03:28
yes they fit on 1302 or 1303
Humble
January 26th 2011, 01:16
I bought a set of the F4P camber plates and I'll vouch for the quality, good stuff!
As for a strut for the front, A1 golf/rabbit 76-84 has a very short strut, one of the shortest, so you might try one of those.

Last summer I ran the bilstein P30-0032-M0 (rabbit sport strut) with 150lb/in springs in the front and to me, the inserts were WAY too stiff. The were rock hard and I actually lost braking grip because the suspension wouldn't move fast enough. I'm looking to get them revalved for next year.
I put the inserts in with 75 lb/in springs (which were way to soft) also just to see and the struts still made it feel rock hard.
What sort of simulation are you using? I have yet to try calculating compression/rebound settings.

the simulation is not for calculating spring or valving it's " only" to know if the struts can work fine in length.
i can't calculate spring or valving yet i don't know the final weight of the car in the front

Ok thanks. Just thought I'd add my two cents, amazing project by the way!

I would advice you to raise the trans before going further to the point of no return, a lot..... your shaft angles will make short work of the cv's and sap engine power.

AWESOME!!!!!!
Hurry up and post some updates.. This is making my 1915 turbo look like an old dog!
Bad bug
February 5th 2011, 11:55
Bugscandrift, how is your 1915 turbo, does it make good power and does all that power come in at a low RPM. I am thinking of building a 1915cc t1 engine first before i build my t4 then the waterboxer.
