Thought id share this with you guys as its kind of race inspired. So this week I've been working on something a bit different to the usual rusty vws I seem to get in. My friend always had capris when we were younger and used to go cruising round local towns. He took a break for a while but got another Capri last year which I did some metal work on. Well he came down this week with a but of a crazy plan. 5 link rear suspension, convert the front struts to coilovers and fit a great big 4.8L Chevy v8 (LR4) with a 6speed manual dodge viper gearbox.

Thanks guys,
I really enjoyed it last week - made a welcomed change! Plus it was nice to have Rob in the workshop.
Once ive stitched the tunnel back together, ive got to sort the metalwork around the shifter AND move the handbrake lever back lol. I think it;s going to have to go back about 4" which means Rob will have to get some custom cables made. Also have to modify the bonnet to clear the throttle body and alternator.
The car will then go back to Robs for Fuel/eletrics/cooling system and suspension set up.
He's going to have a custome xhaust made for it too as the header doesnt clear the steering column on the driver side.
As i say, not everyones cup of tea, but makes for a nice change.

Hey Dave,
funny you drag this thread up again as the car sat there for nearly 6 months......but i spent last week on it!!!
My work is now done. I welded in a brace for the panard rod mount, welded in a rear strut brace/harness mount. Welded in some seat bars. Fitted flywheel/clutch and custom prop. Raised the tunnel by 4 inches and finished off the bulkhead. Also, rob decided to go with an LS1 inlet manifold, alternator and waterpump.....which drops the throttle body by 4 inches. unfortunately he decided this AFTER we cut a ****ing huuge hole in the bonnet to make a bulge!!!
il get some pics up when ive uploaded them!!
the car is now heading back to Rob's for him to install the hydro clutch, cooling and fueling system. Then it's time to rock :D

So time for another Ford update. Rob was having difficulty finding a reasonably prices exhaust fab company....he was looking around the £2,500 mark for a set up....so i suggest we fab'd up a system for him. Next thing i know he's turned up with the car on a trailer and a load of stainless tube :D

I have to say - i am a little jealous of Rob's car! The only thing im not a fan of is the seats and harnesses! In fact i'd go as far to say i hate them! Its such a pita to get in and out of!
anyways....this is the final update! Friday was a manic day - first test drive AND MOT test!
So first 100 yards and we has a slight scraping noise. so we stopped and had a look - the prop was rubbing the handbrake slightly. okay, no biggy - then WOOOOSH! radiator hose blew off! Okay that was a little annoying - turned out one of the connector tubes used was not up to the job. So i went back to the workshop, got some water so we could limp it back to the workshop (on a single track road at this point with nowhere to turn round). I reversed back in the van then got a call from rob saying he had fallen off the road and was beached! ARGH!!
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h334/classiccarrevivals/IMG_4347_zps2bc969fc.jpg~original (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/classiccarrevivals/media/IMG_4347_zps2bc969fc.jpg.html)
I came back with jacks and wood and managed to get him back up on the road. no damage done (other than robs ego! ;) ) So we got back to the work shop, and raised the rear end slightly. That appeared to sort the prop clearence issue...off to the mot.... great first test drive although it failed the test on a bit of rust, rear break imbalance and some wiring issues. Back to the workshop to sort the issues then off to the MOT station again...along the track....then he runs out of fuel! This car really didnt want to be MOT'd lol! Made it to the MOT station 10 mins before closing and they kindly retest for us. WIN!!!! Shes finally on the road, with just a small list of minor jobs to do. Worked my balls off this week but it was definately worth it :D Stuff like this really makes me love my job :)
