View Full Version : My attempt at building GL beetle

Hi Ive been on this site for ages, posting, snooping, admiring, researching and basically getting inspired and learning all about this GL tuning style.I would like say a massive THANKS in advance all the members on here that have given me help and advise over the years and kept me inspired by your builds and creative talents, huge respect fellas. The GL style is by far the most interesting for me as the Cal Look thing to me is old hat.I love the idea of adding big engines with tons of power, big brakes and good handling.Having an old beetle with modern perfomance to me is just the ultimate car to own.:cool::cool::cool:Sadly its taken me years to get mine sorted and I aint finished yet, but I know I will have it sorted one day.

So I thought it was about time I started putting a build thread together even though I have still not finished the car. I have some outstanding problems mainly engine related.Less said about that at the moment the better.

Anyway here is a pic of my car the day I first saw it prior to buying it.http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_2191_zpscf38a8f9.jpg~original~original

Luke at Terrys has done all the bodywork and paint.

The car hiding on the right is a well known car here in the UK called Moody I think it's currently up for sale.

new door, heater channel and bottom post, i cant remember who makes these bottom posts but they are a very well made panel http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3329_zps62bb1328.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3331_zps76549949.jpg~original~originalmore replacement panels gone in.I have paid someone to do all of this as unfortunately I dont' have the skills or expertise to do it myself.I feel a bit guilty having a kind of cheque book resto carried out but its taken years to get to where the car is now I would never of been able to carry out work like this without lots of experience so decided it was best left to someone who new why he was doing ( horses for courses and all that )http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3360_zps509a01bd.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3362_zps38641c86.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3363_zps487dcfb0.jpg~original~original

moon vents welded up I wanted to have this done to prevent moisture getting into the rear quarters as they seem to rot badly here and to give the car a cleaner look.I am hoping on creating some kind of ducting/vents under the floor pan to introduce some more air into the engine bay for extra coolinghttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3367_zps3d2bd215.jpg~original

Looks like they have done a good job there. I went to get a quote for some accident damage a while back and whilst everything they were doing looked to a top standard it was just too much for the other party...

Keep it coming :)

Prior to this pic the floor pan and shell where separated and the pan was painted in POR 15 before a final coat of a rubber type spray on protection. Then the first coat of paint was cooked onto the bodywork.

After this pic of the car on the trailer the car was taken to a so called Subaru Engine conversion specialist.I didn't have the skills or knowledge to do the installation myself.Unfourtunately they didn't have the skills or knowledge either :angry::angry: this has been a nightmare and the less said about this the better. But lets just say I was not prepared to let them get away with it so I have come down on them like :bricks:

This has now resulted in the engine, gearbox, ecu and all the other **** they fitted being removed.

Anyway
Paul and his team at type two detectives http://www.type2detectives.comas fitted the Porsche 944 s2 hubs, rear ali arms, four pot calipers, vented disks as well as the Kerscher front and rear anti roll bars and Kerscher front struts.Again these guys where great, Paul who owns the place is an honest bloke and I would highly recommend them.Paul told me that one of his guys was having a tough time with the car and really getting pissed off with it at one point but He sorted it so hats off to him so a massive TA V MUCH FELLA. these parts where cleaned and etailed prior to fitting

http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_1781_zps23aa80fa.jpg~original~original
Roll cage fitted, this was done by Jim Smith of Cotsweld:notworthy: Jim has done an amazing job of the cage his welding is outstanding.http://www.cotsweld.co.uk If you are thinking of having a cage built here in the UK Jim's ya man.:cup1: Unfourtunately the pics I had of the car at Cotsweld seemed to have been lost :( so I only have some of the pics of the cage prior to paint.http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3686_zps4c1ebd5d.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_3673_zps38f76fb1.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/4f9d540d-cc5f-4f6a-ac48-1559b97e6f47_zps05b63e9a.jpg~original~original

The cage was built this shape in the rear as I wanted to retain the rear seat. Not sure whats happening now though.

The ali arms where also polished.I have now got LAP rear coilovers http://www.laperformance.co.uk/blog/ ,thanks for all your inspiration Lee

I managed find the wheels and tyres on ebay, these are called Carrera Classics.I wanted these for various reasons.1.I think they suit the ergonomic shape of the beetle 2.they're are reasonably unseen on GL cars I have only seen one other car and 3. they are easy to clean,I can clean the insides without having to remove them.Tyres are Pirelli P Zero's.http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_4535_zps8f0255e6.jpg~original~originalhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_4078_zpsfd74251c.jpg~original~original thanks for looking

The only pics of the polished arms are the ones already posted.Could take some more some time if you want .I went for the wide trailing arms as they where free :D I brought the callipers from a Porsche Breakers and he said if I gave him £400 for the calipers he would give me the arms, front hubs, spindles and rear axle :D:D... CMS Porsche breakers( recommended) I managed to get a set of 944 s2 seats off him as well, the one's with the high bolsters, they are seriously comfortable.

My original concept for the car was a stock looking one without to many body mods. However since I decided on going for a Subaru conversion I needed a way to get direct air into the front mounted radiator.I decided to loose the stock look and fit a front spoiler.I figured that as I already had these huge wheels and brakes the stock look had already gone out the window so adding a spoiler wouldn't be much more. The other reason was front end stability (form follows function )Hopefully this will direct air around the car better at high speed.I would like to fit some floor pan mods at some point to get the air under the car quicker. So I went to a car breakers in another daily 1303 and spent hours going through front spoilers to see what might work.I decided on this its off a Rover 400
This has been custom fitted by Luke at Terrys Beetle Services he grafted VW indicator lenses into it as well as extending it and making up brackets.I think it suits the round shape/lines of the 1303 but I would say that wouldnt I.:)

Thanks Humble that means a lot coming from you :)
The plan is to direct the air into the rads then exit it out under the car along the pan asap hopefully via some under floor pans around the engine area.Aparantley getting the air under the car as quick as poss helps with downforce.I am hoping that the spoiler will also help get the air over and around the car quicker to add to this.

Hi Jason
Not sure if it's your car i've seen those wheels on but I have not seen many we must have the same great taste :D.

The front camber is not as bad now as it is here, also I will be fitting
some kmac Camber Adjusters. These seem like a great product and the guys who manufacture them seem to know their stuff http://www.k-mac.com.au.Another member on here Steve C has just fitted some and has come up with quite a clever solution to keeping the settings whilst removing the strutt brace. It would be great to see how he gets on with them.

Thanks,I am not really a fan of body mods but as I was going to fit a kameil spoiler, I just took it one step further. The last thing I wanted was a 80's style Porsche body kit look.I am pleased with how this has turned out.The original plan for the car was big type 4 with a very standard look. However as time went by I decided I wanted to drag it into the future with a modern Subaru engine, heating, wider wings, modern wheels, and comfortable seats.I think I have been lucky finding a bumper that compliments the beetle's shape so well.I know its not for everyone but that's what I like about GL we aint building Cal Look clones.I am hoping its going to follow form follows function,it directs the air where I need it to the rads and around and over the car. I am hoping this will increase downforce/stability at high speed to the normally light front end.

First blast at building a dash.I wanted to build one in two pieces so if there where any issues behind the dash I could remove the top section for access. The other design idea was to have the bottom section carbon and the top trimmed in leather the same as the seats.I was hoping to build the lower dash section and lay the carbon over it :lmao::lmao::lmao: if only I knew how hard this process is :confused: as I say this was the first attempt.I am now on number four and i've also gained a lot more grey hairhttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_5362_zps7f2fc91d.jpg~original (http://s1185.photobucket.com/user/rsg2/media/IMG_5362_zps7f2fc91d.jpg.html)

Carbon cloth. This stuff is very difficult to handle it constantly wants to fall apart and misshape, once the weave is distorted its pretty much game over for that piece of cloth. If I where to give anyone some advise on making carbon parts I would say think very carefully about it, its very specialist.I have only posted the pics here to show how much of a pain it is.( you've been warned ) I would never of had a shot at it if I knew what was involved. But like all these things once you start you keep slogging away at it.

The dash on the left is the first attempt it doesn't look to bad in the pics but some areas looked terrible.this was the carbon laid on the dash.So the mdf mold/plug on the right is the beginnings of numero 2. Thanks to my mate Max he has helped tons to get this dash sorted.

After covering this MDF in resin you are left with a bobbly uneaven surface this is where the sanding begins LOTS of sanding and polishing Lots of that **** as well until you start to get this.

Hi

Good idea making the dash in two sections, the stock 1303 dash is a disaster. On my can I can pull all my instruments out very easily which gives some access behind the dash.

Yes they really are a PITA.
I started making a custom one for mine as a plug for a fibreglass mould but there is just so much work in shaping it and getting it to look good as well as be functionals.

Can't wait to see what yours turns out like.

A few more pics of how my dash has evolved.http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/DSC00180_zps4bf8ed25.jpg~original (http://s1185.photobucket.com/user/rsg2/media/DSC00180_zps4bf8ed25.jpg.html)~original

The steel top section had a few mods including moving the speedo area slightly and reducing the overall width of the dash by slicing a section out next to the air vents and moving them towards the centre.
The dash now sits between the roll cage and does not run the full width of the car to the door pillars like the stock one.I then filled and shaped it to line up with the bottom section.http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/DSC01125_zpsd0eb958a.jpg~original (http://s1185.photobucket.com/user/rsg2/media/DSC01125_zpsd0eb958a.jpg.html)~original

After this pic was taken the car went off to have the subaru engine conversion bodged up and thrown in by the UK's so called Subaru Engine Conversion Specialists:angry::angry::angry:.Fast forward and after the interior was fitted and the car was road tested the gremiln's started to raise their ugly heads. And trust me there where tons of them..:angry::angry::angry:......Fast forward again and after some successful legal action and money back my way the engine has been pulled. And all the other crap they fitted has been removed from the car.

Hi there a lots of scooby conversions out there, also some on this site have been done extremely well, check out Ricola,Steve c and Vw 1303 all builds on this site. Also VWKD website has lots of info.

Another part I have been dreaming of owning for ages arrived a few months ago my G50 Porsche box :D:D:D:D:D:D.http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll287/2bgeedub/IMG_0020-1.jpg~original (http://s291.photobucket.com/user/2bgeedub/media/IMG_0020-1.jpg.html)~originalI brought this off a Porsche breaker here in the UK.Two weeks after buying it the guy calls me back to tell me a friend of his has a brand new Quaife Diff sitting in his garage. After a quick call I whizz over to his place and almost pulled his arm off for it @ £500 one of the best bargains I have had so far for the build :D:D:D:D.Few months later and the box was dropped off to a friend of a friend at a well known Rally Car builders and the diff is fitted.

I have a Quaife in my G50 as well, very happy with it. The Porsche guy that fitted it said that the Porsche guys don't like them.

Torsen diffs have no over run locking or pre load, generally true but not quite , as the very latest Motorsport quaifes do have adjustable pre load pads, not sure if they are for sale yet tho, all plate type diffs have over run locking ramps, preferred by many for racing, all lsd's have pros and cons whatever the type.

graham
October 28th 2013, 21:07
Ive heard good reports on the quaife lsd for street use, some people saying its one of the best mods for drivability.Others sware by the diff made by a company called Guard but apparently these are better for track use and even more money than the quaife one:shocked:.Anyways hopefully the diff will be worth the extra expense.I gave the box a good scrub and a bit of a polish :Dhttp://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll287/2bgeedub/IMG_1421.jpg~original (http://s291.photobucket.com/user/2bgeedub/media/IMG_1421.jpg.html)~original

Hi

The guy that fitted my Quaife reckons a normal plate type LSD would be too vicious in a bug, plus they cost a lot more. He prepares Porsche cup cars so he knows a bit about them

I figure that they are stronger than an open diff that my G50 had.

Steve

ricola
October 29th 2013, 15:38
I have to say the locking up on over-run is the best bit of the plate LSD on my bug, it's has transformed it from scarey on lift off to a car that stays stable..

graham
October 31st 2013, 03:07
The diff I have fitted is the ATB torque biasing type that has no plates.I am not sure it will be as useful as a plate type diff when you lift off the gas but it does have other benefits. This is quite a complex subject with many pros and cons.http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-72684.html

Hopefully though it will be a better car all round than just having the standard diff.

Thanks for your comments fellas.

Hi Rich

What sort of speeds did you find the benefits?, I've only run up to about 164 kmh on race track and the car seemed very stable.

It wasn't about the speed, it was all to do with the rate of deceleration, might have been worse with mine as it is relatively softly sprung..

Ok so I am getting geared up again to get started on the car again.I thought I would post up some pics to get some help and advice on what should ideally happen for the engine gearbox install.I currently have the torsion tube in place but his is going to need cutting to fit the long nose g50.I am thinking about building a cradle/frame over the long nose end like Steve C's build on here with possibly a box type frame tying into the cage at the front of the frame horns and then adding a rear engine cradle mount for the Subaru engine mounts like Ricola's (blatantly copying there designs but there cleverer then me :D ).I want to tie the whole lot to the cage so any suggestions on designs would be apreciated. Also I am thinking about using a bell housing strap ? like Wallys copy copy, again sorry fellas but I like all the mods that you've done on your cars and I think a combination of your designs would be a great way to install the engine and gearbox.Another thought is a brace under the torsion tube to strengthen it all up ? Also I have a rear anti roll bar fitted, would this be in the way or would the gearbox over sail this ?

What do ya reckon fellas any additional input advice or suggestions are really welcome ? Once again sorry for the copy cat approach here but I think this seems the best way as these are kind of tried and tested methods.
I will be fitting the better racers edge lower shock bolts than those in the pics.

If anyone is reading this who've I have mentioned above would you have done anything different ? I will have to have this work done professionally as I don't have the skills myself so I want to get it right.Once again thanks for all the inspirational builds that exist on this site they do keep me keen and motivated. Not sure if anyone is reading this but if you are thanks in advance Graham.

I thought about having some sort of frame over the trans which also tied in to the top damper mounts but space was very tight, turns out my design is very rigid as it is so that's how I would do it again! In a saloon you may be able to do it in thinner gauge and add the bracing as a more weight efficient solution...

Progress continues as Jim at Cotsweld works his magic and gets the G50 in place.

He has really put some thought into this and I am Chuffed with how its going

The pictures show how he has overcome the long nose cone, I thought this would of been a real pain but as you can see its pretty trick.

In addition to this I now have a nice access panel underneath, a solid mounted front mount and some extra bracing off the body/cage :D

Why solid mount, isn't this a street car? Even when people solid mount a lot of the time they won't do the front as there is much less flex in the mountings which leads to cracked nosecones...

Good morning, was the torsion bar/housing cut away? Was your engine/trans raised any. Will you be using a lessor poundage torsion bar, along with coil overs?. I think your model of G-50 may be longer than Walter's, from the look of your tailshaft housing. Have you seen Walter's picture of comparison and measurement of his 915 verses the G50. How much more in length will your engine be rearward than its original location. The reason for my questions are,I am toying with the idea of a subaru EZ30. By it being a 6 cylinder, rear apron clearances I need to be mindful of.

Very nice work.

I say solid mounted more as a figure of speech rather than it is actually solid mounted, so i have retained the large front bushing and the Porsche cross member thats welded to the frame horns mount will have some bushings added.Do you think this could still present problems Rich ?

Trans was moved 70 mm forward and 50 mm up.
no torsion bar, coilers in the region of 450-500 lbs and a uniball kit made by member a on here, Alex.
My g50 will sit rearwood in the same position as the original gearbox.

From memory Walter has a short nose g50, so that plus the fact that he has had the first rib of his g50 machined off enabled him to get the g50 in without cutting the torsion tube. Also walter obviously has a wild air-cooled lump and the suggestion of putting a subaru engine in his car would send his blood pressure through the roof :lmao::lmao:.Thats my basic understanding on his instal but please check as my knowledge on most things is very limited and only gained from hours of reading on forums wich can lead to confusion as there are so many differing opions/projects.I am pretty sure as well that on the face of it the h6 looks like a great swap but the 2 or 2.5 litre ej20 engines are a better bet. They are more widely available have tons more tuning options and i think they are marginally shorter. As I say these are my basic understandings so do your own research.Check out other forum members rides inc Ricola's, Steve c and obviously Walter's, all these guys are helpful, approachable, knowledgeable and millions of times better placed to advise than me.
Unfortunately my knowledge and experience of building cars is limited to just this one and for the most part I'm stumbling around in the dark most of the time with my build and get pointed in the right direction by other members who kindly tolerate me

Sounds fine Graham.. Yours is in the same position as mine if what we discussed has been followed through, ie bellhousing about 70 and 50mm up from VW position. The H6 is -.7" longer than a 4 so depending exactly where that length is (height wise) you could juggle how much the trans is moved to get it to fit easily enough. There's no way it will go in without cutting the torsion housing

That gearbox is mohoooosive!!! Nice work though getting it in there. Your car is coming along well. Obviously I'm more partial to a Ty754 as its loads smaller then that G50 and probably cost half as much. Although I did spank a lot of money changing my 915 out. I'm much happier now with mine.

Keep up the good work and we need more pictures!!!

Yeah Kai, the g50 is a bit of a beast but I was lucky enough pick it up with 70 k on it with a brand new Quaife diff for £2250 :D. The diff alone is around £1200. I know thats a lot of dosh but it's also a lot of kit. A built bus box from bears was coming out at £3000  but obviously the fitting for me has been pricey as I haven't done the work myself. Also there is the adapter plate etc to factor in. If I where to do it again I would of considered the reversed Suabru r/p.Having said that I am more than pleased with what I have chosen and It will easily handle any future power upgrades if I ever plan them. Also Judging buy other peoples experiences with the G50 I am confident that its going to be a great choice, I just can't wait to use it :D

Hows your Notchback Kai ???

The full conversion from 915 to Subaru gearbox cost me £3000. But that was to supply everything needed to swap them out plus all the Gucci frills such as the quaiffe diff, lightened flywheel, of course the new ring and pinion but also a starter motor and clutch slave. It cost me £550 for a supplied gearbox fitted with the subarugears kit. I had my 944 shafts shortens. Had them friction welded which was interesting to learn about. They're lasted a few burn outs and I'm confident they're strong enough for the time being. I'm aiming for 320bhp with the scooby as that's a sensible figure with a stock engine. Can't be bothered to build an engine as they cost loads of money. Used ones are £400. No brainier really haha.

Generally the notch has not done much this year. My front beam has way too much play in it for me to bother MOTing it. And type 3 beams, the parts are not as readily available as a type 1 beam. Also I lowered the front end which makes the car look awesome but it's been a pig to drive. Rear shocks are buggered also. I'm gonna inject some cash into it over winter and get it up and running for next season. I'm also having the usual wheel dilemma going on also lol. I want to get it to the stage I'm happy to drive it as my daily driver. I didn't touch it for 5 months, went at it with the key and it chugged into life instantly. Well Chuffed with my Subaru conversion.

The work your getting done it looking lovely. How do you estimate
Until It's back on the road?

For those of you that know about the f___ing Idiot who previously installed the engine it will come as no surprise to you that nearly every part of there work needed ripping out and binning. Including the water pipes and fire wall. What more can I say, Professional W__ker....

THANKFULLY Darren Coleman over at http://www.dccustoms.co.uk now has the car now for the engine install and finishing.( Check out Darren's Facebook page to see what he is capable of )

Hi

Looking good.

Make sure you break the coolant line in a straight section, that way you only need to carry straight bits as spares.

See how you like the noise level from your muffler, I think the noise level on my car is OK, when I go to track days everyone comments that they cant even hear my car because its so quiet. It all depends on how much attention plod will give you.

Noise tests this year for UK circuit and track day cars are down to 100DB, that is VERY tough to achieve, drift cars are out at Some venues as they don't comply, air coolers may doubly struggle.

Same here but turbos do quieten things down a lot, screamer pipes make a lot of noise.

One track I go to is 95dB at 30 metres the other I cant seem to find the regulations for the other track but next door to it is a 1/4 mile track with no restrictions

Agreed! There are enough people out there disliking our hobby. In California, someone was trying to introduce legislation to prevent ANY modding of cars regardless of age. Fortunately it was shot down but this doesn't bode well for our hobby. We need to do what we can to keep our detractors from having fuel to go after us.

I truly apologize for the slight hijack of your thread.

That sucks. I'd follow the trial of dominoes, if any car manufacturer was backing that legislation in California it wouldn't surprise me. Forcing us to abandon the old cars and only buy new ones.

I rented a car in Ireland years ago, they wouldn't even allow you to open the hood as it had a special key. They talked about this legislation in Holland also of owners not being able to even mess with their own cars, etc.

Also sorry for the hijack.

Hi

I just got back from an event in Sydney called Powercruise, http://www.powercruise.com/ (check out the videos) its a 4 day event where you get to drive your car around a race track at moderate speeds with tough street cars and have little races against other cars on the straights up to 130 kph or sometimes a little over that, they also have drags, drifting, power skid comps, burnout comps etc.

What the car haters don't take into account is the money spent on cars to turn up and run this event and many other events, its a hidden economy that would disappear if we couldn't touch our cars.

No worries about the Hi Jack's fella's.

If I remember there was some talk about coming down hard on classic car enthusiasts/modifiers/tuners in the Uk a while ago. It will take a brave and stupid politician to try to implement any drastic changes, its a big industry with lots of followers and livelyhoods involved. for this reason I can't see anything too drastic happening. But I think the noise issues are quite rightly founded if its out of hand, noise is a pollution at the end of the day and its not pleasant, a bit like Death Metal :D

Had tons of issues to sort out but it's slowly getting there. The engine is in and running. Next I need to fit some bigger pink injectors to suit the larger turbo. Unfortunately life is in the way at the moment and work has had to stop for a couple of months. But I just thought I needed to update this thread.

The coilovers seen here in the pic are from LA performance and made by AVO. If you mention the word AVO to the majority of people who have track cars they normally laugh. I wish i'd done some more research before I brought them. Parts of them rusted on the car just from airborne moisture and When the car was taken off the ramp one of them collapsed and stripped the thread on the adjustment ring. If you are running these you need to keep a serious eye on them. There are lots of reports of the poor build quality of these and brakages. I have now ordered and fitted a pair of Protech shocks. The built quality of the Protech's looks very impressive. I looked at loads of different coilovers and pound for pound they came out on top. http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/rsg2/IMG_2015_zps5dqseyfk.jpg~original (http://s1185.photobucket.com/user/rsg2/media/IMG_2015_zps5dqseyfk.jpg.html)~original

Hi guys hope everyones keeping well.

Long overdue update.

As previous pics show the car spent a lot of time at DC Customs having the engine/gearbox installed pipework etc. There seemed to be one problem after another and progress was slow, partly my fault and partly because it seemed Darren had lost interest in it. To be fair to him he has done some amazing work on the car but due to parts not arriving or having the right parts I think he was getting pissed off with it and just wanted it out of his workshop. I cant say I blame him. One problem he encountered was with the crappy Avo rear coilover's supplied by LA Performance. When the car was first placed on the floor off the hoist there was a load bang and it was one of the coilovers self destructing.( I have previously given Wally on here the heads up on the build quality of these shocks so if anyone is using them keep a close eye on them and if I where you I would bin them ) It had stripped the main thread completely. They where not designed for that kind of load so no surprise but I wasn't expecting them to let go so easily. I was planning on replacing them anyway and I have had another more robust pair fabricated but boy they where not cheap. So the car has progressed in many areas but I have moved abroad and all work has stopped AGAIN. I do wonder why I ever started it at times but I am getting ready to get back at it soon.

Let's if this works. I clicked on your google photos link, then right clicked and choose "Copy Image Address". I'm using a 4K screen, so I manually edited the end of the link to set the picture size @ 800 x 600.

I can then click "Insert image" button in the post window (yellow thumbnail with a mountain outline), and paste the link that I copied:

My Avo’s broke. Essentially the bent around the A arm and cracked the main body. For my GAZ shocks I’ve relocated the lower mounting point further out. Should of copied Ricola 🤣
