Krukab's ride; http://www.germanlook.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4837

time for some upgrading !!

The engine is running on it's last legs.. It's done some 95.000km's and i'm lacking power, leaking oil, less fuell efficiened,
runnig hotter then it's used to be and so on.
My best friend build the engine and drove it some 20k with it before i bought it from him in '03 and put on an extra 75k
the downside is that my friend brian -who build the 1776 type1 engine- died in '10 in a one way car crash in belgium :(

there are two options in my point of view;
1) rebuilding the 1776 by a vw/porsche specialist or
2) convert it to subaru ej20 na (115hp) power...

A couple of weeks ago I took out the 1776 and started collecting the missing parts for the EJ20 conversion.

Hey Alain,
The EJ20 with single ohc looks nicely compact, but why didn't you use a WBX 2,1 ?

Nice pics!

Cheers,
Walter

Walter,

I think/believe that the Subaru 2L 16V engine is more refined/economical/more common then the 2100 8V WBX engine.

Nice.

Serpentine belts, service intervals and 15-20 years of development help too.

Conversion cost is the negative over the WBX for similar output

Total cost will be in the region of 2500,- euro and that includes the engine, Jenveys, Megasquirt, radiator, clutch, adaptor plate, flywheel, etc
