View Full Version : Future of Germanlook.net

April 1st 2019, 22:43
Hey guys, what should we do with the site? I don't mind keeping it going, but it's not being used very much. It seems like we have a few options:

1. Do nothing, keep Germanlook.net going
2. Move to a forum on ShopTalkForums.com (try to preserve our history if possible)
3. Shut down the site

Again, I'm totally fine keeping it going, just wanted to see what you guys think.

Been coming here since 2002. Do so more and more infrequently the last few years as the activity has significantly dropped off. My vote would be to move it back to ShopTalkForums.com and try to preserve as much of the history as possible.

After a very long time a little life has moved in here now and I also write a few lines from time to time, it would be a pity if the page disappears.
Should it be the money, a solution would have to be found.

I for one, still like it.
Once that Facebook hype is over and people realise they only get quality and reachable infos on these BB fora, people will return.
That's my opinion and I am stcking to it ;-)

Ive been researching a lot here and would hate to see it go.

This is about the only forum where you don't get fat chick and super hate

Hello, what is being said now, as to keeping GL as is, I vote for that. If it comes to having to aid with helping with the cost, I'm still for keeping GL as is. Please don't change.

Sounds good guys. Just wanted to check.

the trouble with face book is that all the info or questions asked just disappears

I don't frequent as often anymore, but the Aircooled hype is still strong.

Seems like my local vw folk that were here years ago are now just yapping on our whattsapp group. Instant pics and replies, but we lose the global experience and feedback.

I fully agree. Just hope people realize that before its too late..

I put this post on the German Look Volkswagen page on Facebook

"Hi, the German Look forum is not getting as many visitors as it used to. It's a valuable resource and unlike Facebook questions and answers, they don't disappear after a few days, so go and have a look, do a search and you will often find great answers there."

A few people didn't know this forum existed

Please keep this site going. I love STF, but it's very quiet over there too. I still reference a lot of the older topics on here.

Facebook is, and always will be, for all intents and purposes a one-way communication device. Like buttons and all that crap.

People just aren't into cars anymore like they used to be. Or doing anything for that matter that involves more than swiping a finger on a touch screen. Sigh.

Yeah, I saw that, good job!

No problem guys, we can keep it going. Just wanted to check with everyone.

I will look into upgrading the forum software to the latest version at some point in the coming months.

If anyone wants to help out with Moderator/Admin duties let me know (Humble, Wally, Steve, etc). It's mainly just deleting spam account requests, and approving posts in this topic.

My question is how to get people from FaceBook and Instagram over to here again?

There are lots of builds going on there, but not being shared here, where I feel it's easier to keep tabs on them.

Personally, I come to this site almost every day. I don't always post, but I look at every post I see. I'd hate to se it go.

Even though I a member on the FB group as well, I don't believe I've every posted there. A ton of valuable information was lost when SuperBeetles Only! went the FB only, I don't want that to occur with this site as well. In fact, very often if I get bored and it's too hot outside to work on the 1303(s), I come here and reread old threads.

Please keep it going.

I really love this forum.

Actually the best VW forum of all IMHO.

Too bad the world has moved on in other directions,
This forum has a place in the world.

I guess what we all can do is keep contributing.

Will go ahead and put my build on here.

Every bit helps.
Glad that someone has stepped up to keep it alive.

It's a real labor of love,
And a lot of labor sometimes, too..

Really important that this info doesn't get lost to history.
A really special place/time in the world.

I try to visit this site as much as I can, when I post on the Aussieveedubber forum I copy and paste the same post here or vice a versa, that forum has died off a lot as well.

I've seen posts on the Facebook page asking information and I direct the people here, some people didn't know this place existed

I of course fully agree with the above :)

When I have time for upgrades, either the notch or the bug, I'll post 'm here!

June 21st 2020, 21:44
Yup...it's quiet in between builds, but the core group of people I respect (and can trust for quality answers) are all here. Keep the posts coming!
