I am converting my ’73 standard beetle chassis to coil-overs, front and back. I have narrowed the front beam 1¼” on each side with 2½” dropped spindles and disk brakes. Also, I have removed the torsion leafs. I am looking for stock length coil-over shocks with 6” of travel. I believe the spring rate should be in the 125 to 140 lbs/in range,
With regards to the rear, I’m using narrowed trailing arms (1½”), Eagle Products’ coil-over conversion kit and disk brakes. I plan to lower the rear by 2½” and will accordingly use shorter than stock shocks. Based on my calculations I believe I will need 275 to 300 lbs/in springs.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar setup or have advice/recommendations regarding brand of shocks and spring rates? Any comments will be greatly appreciated
