Here are the pics of my blacking out. i am not going to do it to my brand new mirrors i just bought from west coast metric cause they are so new so i have other mirrors that are already black i am using i just havent installed them yet. as for the headlight rings they are going to be replaced with black ones that will be painted to match the cars color when i repaint and the bumpers are either going to be carbon fiber(HOPEFULLY) or color matched to the car like the headlight rings. i'd like to thank bren, vujade and everyone else who gave me the ideas to do this. so here are the pics

the first one is the picture of my hood handle and my carbon fiber scratch gaurd plate i made. thn rest are self explanitory.

That looks great !

Did you just paint it ? Did you use a special primer ?

Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't fill all the trim holes, this looks pretty good !

Rob.

That does look great, very mean.

Rob, go ahead and fill the trim holes. If you want black trim later, just use black pin stripe.

standing back.....

do you like it?
would you go back to chrome?

i think your rims make the car, and the blacked out trim compliments your rims.
honestly, if you had blacked out the trim on a different set of rims your bug wouldn't have looked as nice.

i like it.

well i primed all pieces, then shot them with the black, then shot clearcoat onto them to bring out some shine cause i used a satin black.(low gloss). yes i did stand back and look at it and decide if i wanted the chrome back but when i bought these new wheels the chrome pieces just seemed to throw off the look. it looked good with my other wheels but not these ones. so my friend said you know all those cars you see on your websites that black out the trim? you should try that. so i did it starting with the side trim and what do you know? it looked better.. so i did all the chrome pieces in black and damn look how much better it contrast' with the wheels and carbon fiber parts. i may shave the moulding off when i repaint but i am definetely shaving the turn signals. when i do repaint it later in the summer i am having all pieces i just painted powdercoated black along with window frames, suspension parts, gas tank, etc. to withstand all the everyday usage and wear and tear. cause remember i drive this car everyday 24-7, 365 a year. i can only protect it so much ya know? so with that yes i am glad to did it and if i change my mind (which i doubt ) everything is reversable. kinda cool for being done with krylon products.

That looks really good, any plans to do the bumper or the headlight rings? My beetle is red but I got hit in the back and it smashed only the decklid so I was planning on getting a fiberglass decklid and painting it black. I think if I did what you did(if you don't mind of course) that it would look pretty nice. Good job. Those wheels look pretty good as well.
