wheel spacers and studs

Need help with wheel studs. I installed the 944 disc brakes on the rear and found that with the spacer the wheels stick out to far. removed the spacer and it's better but now the studs are to long. Do I even need to run a spacer at all? How do I determine the length of the stud required?

Why the spacers to begin with. The only time I have ever seen spacers used is when the tire or rim was hitting either the brake assy. or the shock/bump stop. If the studs are too long, take the rotors to any machine shop and have them cut )if they are pressed in), if they are screw in , change them. Most Hotrod shops will carry studs varying in pitch and length.

The 944 comes factory with rear spacers. What wheels do you plan to use?

stud length should be 2-3 times the diameter of the stud if using alloy nuts. so a 14mm stud...you want 28mm of thread min.

Or you can measure the thickness of the spacer and deduct that from the length of the stud. That's what I am going to do tonigh for my lovely fully polished 16" fuchs

I have a set of Boxster rims (16") w/ Michelin tires. In addition the stud issue, another problem I face is the tires are made to be wider than the rims. I measured the tire width (9") and the offest of the wheel from the edge of the tire (6 1/4") and the distance from tire to wheel (3/4"). The wheel is 7.5" wide. These are for the rear only, fronts are 6" (me thinks). As you know Superman, body is not yet on the pan (picutes on SBO website, members). I measured from the body mount on the pan to the edge of the tire w/ spacer (12") and w/o spacer (11"). Still I am 1 inch to wide. I may have to get different tires. I will have to see once body is on the pan. It appears the studs are pressed in, 944 hubs, is this true? Years ago when I had a 68 Nova SS, I broke wheels studs and w/ my Dad's help knocked out the old ones and fitted new ones. What's the big deal? It should be an easy swap, yes? Maybe I should have machine shop press out old and press in new?

I fitted the studs from a '87+ 944T hub to the '86 944T hub and left off the 21mm spacers. Rear tyres measure 225/45ZR17 and wheel offset is 52mm. Everything fits :D

whats the difference between the early & later hub?

i need to replace my wheel studs..what size should i order? 45mm? 66mm?

84' 944 n/a hubs...
cup 3 rims
the ones in the hubs are too long...looks like someone ran a 1" spacer.
i need to get some to allow fitment under stock fenders.
what is the stock length?

I had the same problem when running 944 brakes. I used a hacksaw and cut off 20mm(the thickness of the spacers). You could buy theh studs but studs are expensive(compared to a hacksaw blade) :D .
