fitting 17s on a 73 std

i would like to fit 17s on my 73 std beetle.

i would probably use 17x7 ET40s since they are easy to get.

would a narrowed beam be enough to make them fit.

the car will probably be lowered about 1.5" with adjusters up front.

i will probably run 217/40r17s

That's a Super, so a comparison is a bit of a stretch...
