Hi there.
Has anybody tried fitting Merc brakes to a vw. You get realy huge discs on some of the new Mercs (CLK, SL AND S-class), most of them will not fit in wheels smaller than 17", some of them is also cross-drilled for ventilation. You also get the smaller C-class with massive discs (should not be to expensive).
The conversion should be very easy on a type 2, as the PCD on the bolt pattern is the same. The only thing to do, would be to get the right calipers and fabricate the brackets for them.
Should be cheaper than Porsche brakes. You can even get used discs as they get taken off if they are worn more than 1mm per side. I work for Mercedes and we throw them away, as we do not have them resurfaced.
I am going to try a set on my 74 type 2 crew-cab.
I will take some pictures as I go along.
Thanx Hermann.
