View Full Version : Logo for my panel??

Panelfantastic
March 30th 2004, 16:58
I've been thinking about doing a Porsche related logo for my panel. Having a buddy cut it from vinyl so it wouldn't be permanant is one way, or painting it on and then distressing it (but the rest of my paint isn't faded so that might look wrong).
Something like "Genuine PORSCHE parts and service" or "PORSCHE speedparts" etc. With the letters PORSCHE large and in the fore front in their style of lettering and whatever else kinda small and underneath. I would want to do it in soft colors and keep it subtle, almost hidden...

Here's a pic to help get a mental pic ...

Distressing it would look cool on a "Rat Ride", and a Rat Ride GL would be cool. I think your paint and wheels are too good for a Rat.
Vinyl would be a cool modern clean look. I think it would be cool.

Yep, I like the Vinyl idea.
Get some 'old school' type lettering, you know, so it looks like
an old delivery van or something....

If you are going to do it get some sponsor money and make it pay.

How about "Volkswagen built... PORSCHE inspired..."

That will turn a few heads...

If all else fails... "Wanna race"

I'm trying to come up with something that uses that blocky looking Porsche script as a banner and then maybe something in German below in smaller more european lettering...

PORSCHE
die Servieteile mit Eilboten

Only the Porsche would be half as high and twice as wide...kinda stretched...

How big are you planning on making the logo...

Panelfantastic
March 30th 2004, 22:07
If you take a look at the pic, there is a reflection of a flourescent light on the upper rear. About that long, maybe ten-twelve inches high.

i wouldn't.

it would look "ricey".

the panel looks awesome CLEAN!

no vinyl, it will ruin the clean lines/colour.

my thoughts,
pete

I agree with NO H20, if it was a rat.... then definitely go for it, but it's not, it's got to be one of the cleanest looking panels out there & that's where Pete’s comments come in petevw

I think you should leave it as it is....beautiful :D

find an old school sighn painter and have him actually paint it on, gold leaf might be even cooler.

Panelfantastic

I'm probably gonna leave it as-is. That's the problem with waiting forever on parts... you get bored and start dreaming up stuff  ..

I hear that.
Later (after you have it on the road) you will have to get it ready for a show or gathering and won't have any time to get it ready (clean it up from being driven) so you can show up the trailer queens.

I definately want to make a few shows this summer. I hope it will be running soon but after it is, the progress will grind to a halt. No fresh paint this year. Probably no finished interior this year. BUT... I still intend to make a few shows anyway as "under construction" as long as it is drivable. That means trailering it to the town, then off loading and cruising!
We just started our dream house, I must show that my priorities are in order.
(the new shop will be only 1,000 sq ft smaller than the entire new house :D :D )

Sounds like your priorities are in line. I had to slow my project down this winter, my wife is still laid-off and the TDI dropping a valve put a hurting on things.

Yeah, something like that. I'm not sure who makes some of these motors.

Can't remember where I was looking, but saw some euro websites with lots of logo'd panels, have to see if I can find it.

Wesayso strikes again!

I'm gonna try posting a link instead of the whole pic cuz I'm afraid the image may be too big?

I kinda like it. It would be even cooler if you could get a local Porsche dealer or tuner to kick in some cash to include there name on it. Cash is good.

Now I would like to see your vote, Panelfantastic...

6 supporting your idea, 2 against and counting...

Panelfantastic
April 3rd 2004, 20:29
My vote is YES!
I've wanted to do this all along. Part of the whole theme I've been working on. I could picture it in my mind but thanks to Wesayso, I could actually see it.

As far as involving our local Porsche dealer, they're not really car people. Most of them know very little about cars. I know this sounds ridiculous but we've bought several cars from them and they are clueless.

IMHO, leave it alone. let the subtleness speak for itself. i do think what i have seen looks cool, but think the statement is even stronger when not distracted by the text. again, just me though.

one thought for you in case you do go with it. consider static vinyl. you can add and remove at will that way. if you later decide you don't like the logo (and you haven't been leaving it on all of the time in the sun), you can just never use it again and not have paint fade impression of it. cost is about the same as vinyl letters. if needed, i can hook you up with the guy who does our VKG stickers and other stuff for me. let me know if you want his info.

and DAMN you make me want a panel bad. and i am looking for a bus at the moment. will probably go GL Rat though as it will just be a Home Depot runner.

Do not fear the dark side. The panel is your friend. You must have panel. Panel is the way to happiness. Know the panel. Be the panel.

April 4th 2004, 09:36
My vote would be no.
I like the 'stealth' aspect of (almost) stock panels. Besides with a panel as straight as that why detract from it? :D
I did have a question though, why PORSCHE? Isn't your bus powered by a chevy?
Just my opinion. what ever way you go the panel is still killer! :agree:
Cheers,
Dave

I picked a Porsche logo because I like the style. I used Porsche wheels and Porsche brakes (eventually big reds when I can). Will be switching to a Porsche tranny when I can afford it. Considered Porsche power but the price is just ridiculous...
I just thought, If Porsche had a delivery van, what would it look like?

Regardless, I appreciate all the comments. It helps me to consider things I might overlook.

I made this logo. see attatched jpg
It's kinda a goof, but maybe you guys can give me some ideas. I love the Red letters! nice job!

Which reminds me...is there a section in the forums page on How to paint a bug? You know....any special tips or pointers?

no dedicated section at this time. "off topic" or "GermanLook" is probably the closest at this time. i have been debating whether we should have one or not.

Hey, I just aquired a '58 panel that is amost completly solid (a few small patches, and a lot of dents to bang out)
so I'm pondering this question as well.
I'm debating over going to the original color (monotone greenie grey)
or to do a new color of some sort, in monotone or two tone.

but either way I want to do a LOGO of some sort,
either for my company or a porsch/vw related logo.

Check out page 56 of this months Hot VWs (June 2005) for a Panel with a Porsche/VW logo. Apparently Porsche used the 68-72 model panel buses for service vehicles at race tracks.

Where could I find more information on distressing a logo? I've got my eye on a semi-beat up 71 bus that I want to use for a work horse/tower for the Super race car that I'm building. It's got faided read paint and it would look really cool if I could do some type of vw/porsche logo that looks as old as the bus does.

justdubbin
April 25th 2005, 03:04
One way of having the distressed look would be to have the logo air-brushed on (those guys can do almost anything you want), unfortunatly this would also be the most expensive way.

That's what I want. I want to design and have a Porsche/VW designed logo on the side of the bus, and make it look really old.
