Porsche Speedo

Hi All,

I have a question about porsche speedos...I've got a 914 tach (without silver button) and the matching 914 combo gauge (fuel level, oil light, generator, battery). I'm looking for a speedo now (120 mph). I was going to buy a 914 speedo but the vendor said it would be out by 15% because it was cable driven off of the tranny, and my application was the front wheel.

What do you guys think about this ? Which speedo should I be looking at ? I'll be using 235/35/18 (24.5" tall) on the front of my standard.

I want the speedo to match the tach and combo gauge.

I was told that this was not a problem if it was driven from the spindle. It should be very close. I believe that the accuracy comes from your tire size.
You might need to get the speedo calibrated for your car. to make it absolutely correct.

Interesting....

If the speedo is underdriven by 15%, then the smaller dia tire might bring it it back to spec.....

Now to find a speedo !

Check ebaymotors. Sometimes they have km/h ones listed.

I've got a 150 mph 914 Speedo in my bug (like I need one that reads to 150 :o ) driven off the front wheel. Using one of the local law enforcement radar carts for a rough calibration, it reads within 3 mph (on the high side) all the way to 70 mph and is dead nuts at 40 mph. My tires are 165/15's for reference. Cheers!

I have a 120mph 914 speedo hooked up to all the stock Super Beetle cables and what-not. Reads exactly like the stock one did. I have 195-50-15 right now, swapping to 205-40-17 soon.

You should have no problems with the 914 speedo at all.
