fitting 911/993 brake setup to a 70 bug..

Hi.

I recently bought a set of 911/993 brakes/rotors. I've seen the article on fitting these exact brakes on a bug (not sure if the year makes a difference), but I have a few questions....

What size wheel is the minimum to fit on these brakes? I have 16" fuchs, and i'm worried I may have to goto a bigger size. Also, how difficult would it be for an amateur like myself to put these puppies on?

Do you have 944 hubs already. I have the late style hubs which attach the rotors to the outside opening up more rotor options. You will have to see how well the rotors fit on the hubs. If they are too close to the spindle they will rub and thats not good. If they are too far away from the spindle you will be moving rotating mass farther out making steering slighty more difficult. If any of those problems pop up you will need to get cutom rotor hats made to place the rotor in the correct place. Once the rotor problem is resolved you will need to make caliper mounts for the calipers. I had mine done by www.vdubcustoms.com and everything turned out nice. Measure the distance between the inside surface of the rotor and the back side of the rotor. Mine (87 + 944 non turbo) have a back spacing of 72mm so if you modify the hubs the same way I did and the offset is the same you "should" be OK on rotor placement. With that offset on my brake kit the rotors sit even with the face of the spindle and have minimal track increase.

nope, I know its not stock, cause its 5x130 bolt pattern, but its defiently not 944 brakes. I have nothing from the 944 yet, where did you go to get the 944 parts?

If you search e-bay you will see alot of 944 parts on there. You might have to search awhile to find a set of hubs at a good deal. Get the later style (1987 +++) because they mount the rotoe to the outside of the hub. Those are the same ones that Sandeep and I have. Are you going to use droped spindles or stock spindles.??

Well, I want to make the front and rear adjustable. I know i've seen rear adjustable before, but people have told me that making the front adjustable will be hard. I found these:

Well the reason I ask if you were using droped spindles is the fact that you could use Sandeep's setup as a model. With 993 brakes you will probably have to use 17" rims and I don't know how much you can lower the front of a bug with large rims. That might be something to think about. I have an adjustable beam with stock height spindles. I won't know how well the setup I have will work untill I get the body back on the chassis, whenever that may be. :rolleyes:

I still have everything listed..

The front Spindles, Hubs.. but no calipers..

I also have the corresponding struts off the 944..

Just so you know.. these are the 87+ N/A which uses the thinner strut..

I can take pics to show difference.. But I know there is a post somewhere Identifying the difference..

If you want pics I can take so you can see exactly what I have..

Let me know exactly what you need if anything.. More than glad to work a price that will be more than fair...

do any of you guys have the dimentions for narrowing early hubs, and making the bearing spacer for the insert. this would save me time in the machine process. guys , this is not as hard as you'll make it sound, i presently have a 4 piston caliper and a 1.250 rotor @ 10.750 dia inside a 15 inch wheel. the 944 hubs are just my next step.. can anyone help? thanks kyle
