voltage regulator bypass

i was running an external voltage regulator with my 911 fan. i am switching to a DTM and running an AL-82 within an internal regulator.

what is the right way to rewire to do away with the external regulator?

I had to do the same thing since the sube alternator also has an internal regulator.
YMMV, but this is what I did:

Yank out the regulator and hook the red wires together.
The Blue one (I think, I'm going from memory here), is the charge light, so you should hook that one up to the warning ligth wire off the new alt.

And I believe that should be it....of course I haven't actually started mine yet :rolleyes:

Big lug on alternator gets battery positive all the time, little spade terminal goes to warning light, other side of warning light gets system voltage with the key on.

It's a one wire alternator, which means that it doesn't need 12 volts applied to the field coils to magnetize them. Once they start spinning, and cutting lines of magnetic flux, they will magnetize themselves.
