Hi Guy's
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get 150 mph from a modified t1 four speed with a 2.6l type 4. If this is possible what gears should i use.

Use this calculator:

I'd guess you have to go 3.44 and 0.82 with big tires.

I read about a bug in Germany that did just that. I will see if I can find the article and get some information. :)

whether or not the speed is obtainable through tranny and engine calculations, i think the bigger questions is will the aerodynamics of the car let you get there and sustain it safely. i'm sure it can be achieved (it is on the drag strip), but sustaining without massive buffeting is what i would be concerned about. i'm sure others who have done this or come close will speak up though. i have to stick around for my kids and can't even consider that though.

on superbeetlesonly.com there is a tech article about a "porsche eating" race super. check it out for aerodynamic tips. I also heard something about putting a small spoiler on the roof above the rear window.

You can find the article in the February 2004 issue of VW Trends.

Here are some specs.3.88 r/p with stock VW 1st and 2nd, 1.12 3rd and .85 4th. It had a 2840cc type 4 with 230 hp @ 6800 rpm. :)

I love it when these guys give their specs when they make such fantastic claims. It lets us know how much BS is flowing.

It takes over 330hp to go 150mph in a Bug. He's only got 230. In other words, if he had it geared right, he might be able to hit 130mph, on a good day.

Smells a bit like the tranny I'm building ;)
