im about 75% ready to buy this bug, but it said it needs front end work on the description which makes me believe it needs new suspension crap. what would be the best way to replace everything in it?

should i go for it or not?

You'll have to call or write to get the details. It could be just that it was lowered improperly and needs the work you suspect. It could be rust even though the current owner and seller are in California. It could be that it was in a front end collision at one time and the repairs were insufficient. It could be a combination of the three. Or maybe it just has the shimmies.
The 25% of you that is foisting the red flag has its merits. I take back "writing" for answers; just call. The car could be a steal at $1800. It could be in line for a change of suckership. Hard to tell.
Proceed carefully and good luck.

There is not alot to the front end of a Super, replace all the bushings and damper, all of which you will work over doing a GL car anyway.

hi
thanks for the e-mail
the engine is stock 1600cc single port
i dont know what tranny
it gets the shakes between 45-50 mph. but before and after those speeds it drives fine. i replaced the steering damper, i have control arm bushings just haven't put them in. but thats all i have done. probably need tie rod ends and stuff like that.
mostly city driving, to and from school and work
drove it to the VW Classic in irvine in June, it runs great,
should make it to where your at no problem
thanks

Sounds like it needs the normal rebush. Just replace all the bushings and tie-rods and make sure the damper is still good, get an alignment and it will be alright.

$1800 and all that's wrong with it is it has the shimmies? If true, that sounds like a very good deal.

Don't froget the idler arm bushing, when they go they can really beat up a lot of the suspension and steering parts too.
