there's a flashback. anyway, got the beast put back together this weekend in a multi-day marathon. fired it up tonight!!!!!! have to tweak linkage and idle, but all seems good so far. will have to wait until tomorro to get it on the road. still a bunch to do before Taccoa, but the important stuff is done. the rest will be icing.

thanks to Nigel and Dave once again for the extra hands. couldn't have done it without you. reeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy looking forward to the caravan and having the car up there. this could very well be the largest showing of GL's i have ever seen in the states. and at 5, that is very sad.

will get some video of the car when i can. will be way to busy this week. i have some cool web stuff happening with a couple of my customers this week to top off an already busy time. more on that to come.

oh, and on a separate note. my 4 year old had is first homework where he had to draw pics of his favorite things. he was drawing a car for his favorite toy and i'll be damned if he didn't put the engine in the back and had round headlights. he makes me so proud! :D :raiseroof

that is cool about your car and your son. it is a shame that there are not more GL cars at shows.
we need to impress more people with the cars and convert them to the dark side :D

thanks guys. i didn't factor in Frances to my plans this week. just will have to juggle some things around and end up with one or two days less on break-in :bawling:. muffler system and alignment will get postponed too. i have plenty i can knock out in the garage though. was hoping to have it on the road once each day though. oh well.

Congratulations Zen. Just remember to keep me away from the car or something else will break. I swear that I have the mechanical mummy's curse. Seriously Zen, Joe and I are planning on being in the neighborhood around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday so if you need some help let me know. :D

>this could very well be the largest showing of GL's i have ever seen in the states. and at 5, that is very sad.<

After going to the Bug Out in Manassas I am not surpirsed 5 is the most in the US shows. I was depressed at the lack of GL cars there. I woudl say one good GLish beetle and it was running Phones dials with adapters to run Willwood calipers. Odd setup, but effective. Not a true top to bottom GL though.

Take Care,

well when the rest of us finish our GL cars and other asorted vehicles, we need to plan to all go as a club and show up the others :o :) :D

Congrats!!!
I too am scrambling with last minute stuff. Really, really excited about bringing the bus down and hearing what people say about a GL bus...
I hope to find out today if the trailer I borrowed will actually hold my ride, If it doesn't, I don't really have a backup plan :( .

That rocks Zen!! :agree: Glad Quasi's gonna be there this year, and glad it's up and running again. I bet You and Dave place in the show this year. :trophy:

I got all the parts I could fit in my truck a few minutes ago, and still have to load the grill, and a cooler. :p I'm bringing more than I thought.

Got the CB hooked up in Sue's Bug so's we can converse during the trip. I'll do the final D&C on the car Saturday, 'cause there's no sense in doin' a major detail job BEFORE a 300+ mile trip.

See y'all Saturday!!!!!

got the exhaust installed today. went a little modded on the BAS silencer system. will post pics when i can. we will see how well it works out. my a$$ end is so low that it is an issue now, but if i can get the ride height where i want it, it should be cool. i REALLY don't want to have to pull my whole rear end off again though. just not sure how much height i might gain by fixing my camber issues. if it is not enough, guess i will have more work to do.

started having a missing problem yesterday and lack of pickup under anything above mild acceleration. need to double check i have my linkage right since working with the idle stops. might be that simple. if not, i am assuming a fouled plug is next. or clogged jet. any ideas.

Nice work.

How did the single BAS silencer work?

How did you resolve the hesitation issue?

Good to hear your child is a bughead too.

Enjoy,
Bill

hey. all went well (except for rear end height which i have to redo). the exhaust is great like this. relatively quiet most of the time. tooling around through neighborhoods and such you can hear the carbs way over the exhaust. then when you go WOT it REALLY wakes up. glad i went that direction.

hesitation issue was clogged mains. happened again the other night. easy fix though.

What is clogging them. Is it a rusty fuel tank problem or water in the gas. Maybe you should get a high filtration fuel filter.

i am sure it is just trash in the line. the car sat for 10 years. tanks was cleaned out, but i'm sure there was stuff in the lines. dave and smiff went through the same thing. i was thinking of adding one of the cheapy filter (cause i have one) inline before the carb temporarily to see if it will help. not a major issue though. just have a screwdriver and can of air with you and no problems.

I'm told that it is common to go thru a couple of clogs with a rebiult set of dells if they sat for any legth of time. Too many places that you can't get to when they are cleaned. My car didn't sit before I put this engine in but I had 3 clogs so far, Kevin had 3-4 clogs in the begining and Joe (Yetibone) went thru a few with Sue's car too. I have a filter before the CB fuel pump and just before the engine. It's not to hard to clear them, just drive it and get thru the "clean out period".
