Just got back from Toccoa and had a great time seeing friends and meeting new ones. 5 VKG cars were in the show: Yetibone and Sue, Panelfantastic, Zen, NoH2O and Yellow73. Zen premiered his car and took Best Paint and NoH2O showed off his new power plant and took Best Engine. Panel, your van is beatifully engineered and very cool. My family came and enjoyed themselves and got to meet many of the people I often talk about. I hope you all had a safe journey home and look forward to seeing you soon.

Great show. It was realy nice to have 5 VKG rides in the show. Also nice to see 2 other GL's in the show, 7 GL's in one show,,,,now that was cool. I loved seeing the Panel GL. My hat is off to Panelfantastic. That is one sick Bus. The engineering is fantastic for sure.

Sorry I missed, I'm sure it was a great show. I was at a picnic my other vw club was having yesterday, and when I got home I found a check from Finacial aid for almost $900 I have the money now. I guess that's what you would call ironic. I guess it's good, more money for my project.
Can't wait to see the pictures. :D

man that show sucked bad....but seriously, maybe it was the 8 hour drive that sucked really really bad and the show really rocked... :D :agree:
O, I forgot to mention me and boy genius got a 45 minute police escort along the backroads of Geogia. Let me tell you, that was really fun too
Congrats to Nigel, Zen & Dave for all winning Top 40 trophies and to Zen & Dave for winning best of Trophies (even if they got the awards mixed up....LOL)

my hat is waaaaayyyyyy of to panelfantastic. that bus is even way more sick in person than in pics. truly amazing. you should have seen the number of people flocking to it. i think all in the VKG have the same stance on judging ("who cares"), but it was funny to see how abject they were to the bus based on not putting it in the Super 40 just because it was "bastardized". you live up to the true mission of the VKG, Jeff..."piss em all off". :D
it was great to see all and thanks to those who made the long treks. love hanging with you guys and gals. as for the "mix up" and those that don't know, No_H2O's paint is absolutely superb and flawless. mine has a few issues that are going to be reworked. so we have no clue what happened there. the engine judging isn't so obvious to me other than the amount of customization to get the TIV in vs the T1 he is running. again, "who cares?" i think the trophies are in the right homes just to remind us about judging.
congrats to all on a great show and to those that put it on (club and sponsors alike). it was all worth it to me seeing that sh_t-eating grin on Jake's face when i let him get on it in my car. 90mph up a 25 degree hill with head temps at 250. gotta love it. my 911 shroud had my head temps at 325-350 on level ground at 70.

A big thanks to everyone that put the show on, it was great. Panel, what can I say but your bus was just amazing. If you left your engine covered closed you would of easily walked away with a top 40 award, if not top ten if they had it. But you did a better job of rustling the feathers of all those apposed to change. Congratulations to Zen, NO_H2O, and yellow73 on their trophies. I'm really pupmed up to work on my car now so I can see it parked next to everybody elses cars at the shows. :agree:

I had a blast this time as well. It was quiet compared to last year, but worth the trip. We got home about 9:30, and crashed VERY shortly afterwards. Sue's Bug made the trip without incident, once again.
I made some $$$ at the swap, and spent more $$$ on some parts for my Bug project. I'm starting to feel driven to finish this Bug of mine now. I have most of the drivetrain parts, brake parts and suspension parts on hand, or procured elsewhere to finish, then all thats left is the body
Dave, Zen, and Nigel, congrats on the well deserved awards, and Jeff,... well, what can I say man, the Bus is trick beyond words. You've got one killer ride dude.
Glad my Bratwurst Tartar didn't kill anybody. :o I'll bring a better light to cook by next time.

I wish there was a better way to express it beyond just THANKS!
You guys were sooo great, really, really made Pam and I feel welcome. It was well worth the long haul just to meet everyone and be a part of such a friendly bunch. Everyone just stepped right up and made us feel like old friends. The VKG is a first class group of people. I am proud you would have me as a member!
The show and winning trophies...
Everytime somebody walked past the back of my bus and said "holy..., what the...,did you see...", I won. Everytime somebody wanted to know more about it, I won. Even when the few purists walked by and either mumbled or didn't say anthing, I really won :D . The fact that several folks took club cards off my windows and put them in thier pockets, we all won.
Thank you for the compliments about my bus. I think I wowed everybody just on the freakshow nature of the conversion alone... I really aspire to be able to have something that shows the attention to detail that I saw in the other members' cars, you guys are truely masters of the fine details.
The highlight for me would have to be that some of you were able to shame Jake and Brent into coming over and giving my bus the once over, especially after the stupid Jetta wouldn't die a firey death. I was suddenly very aware of having the only other radiator in the camp...
Thank you everyone!

Thanks Joe! You are a lucky guy to have so many project opportunities! We may talk about those notches but just not right now, Pam would kill me dead.
Please tell me everyone saw the bay window that was a couple rows behind me!? Two tone with late 944/early 968 (or maybe C4?) wheels? One of you had to have given him a card (I hope)? It was sooooooo clean and detailed that it immeadiately reminded me of the level you guy's cars. I was so enjoying it and pointing out details to Pam that I forgot to hype the club to him... I suck.

Man you got home early. I arrived home just a few minutes before 5:00 a.m. Traffic was a bit light for some reason, I guess most people don't drive around in the wee hours of the morning. I stopped over at Vujade's where I grabbed a big cup of coffe to make it accross the state.
I think the fact that I incinerated the second half of my brat makes up for the fist half being a little under cooked. :agree:

Im with you this time too. Im trying to get just the one project done and not work on anything else until its done.

The show was great!
NOTHING was as good as the feel of Zens car and those head temps up that 4 mile long hill while running 90! the temps were absolutely spot on at below 275 the whole time!
I'll never forget the tone of Zens voice........... "man, you mmight better watch those brakes, I haven't really used them yet" Or "watch that turn man, I haven't droive it over 60 yet"
Zen, Thanks for letting me officially Redline the engine for the first time in thecar! I redlined it for about 5 hours on the dyno so its pretty used to my style..
Zens car caught tons of attention, and rewally woke up the BK boyz when we went past the show grounds at WOT ketting them hear the carbs!
Now I'm inspired to finish the Thing and get on the 63 after the 914 is finished next month...
NOW START DRIVING THAT CAR!

With all that was going on I forgot to buy an SK type carb sync tool. :bawling: I didn't remember that untill I pulled into the garage and saw the one I borrowed from a friend. I didn't find the deal of the day on a pair of 36 or 40 dells. All the ones I saw were $400+. I need to find some carbs for the engine I took out of the black car so I can put it in my work beater.

I talked to a BK boy today (Mex) and he said that the VKG put on a very stong showing at the Bug Fair and folks were talking about it. :agree:
Even they loved the Panel.
I think the BK only had 3 cars there.
I hope we hear from the 2 othe GL owners that had the Bug and Bay Window.

sweet. i was hoping that when we made a splash it would be big. and we did.
jake, didn't even see your post. the look on your face while driving it and compliments you had for the car as a whole made the effort that much more worthwhile. it is the car i dreamed about in high school in many ways. and now i get to drive it whenever i want. next show for me is the Euro 2004 so the Porsche guys can see it next...and maybe even spank them on the autocross course. just gotta get that a$$ end up in the air some.
just a tease on the show coverage for those that didn't make it...

I know the feeling Joe, that TR6 of mine needs a MAJOR engine overhaul when I finish the 1303 project  . I wouldn't dare take 'em both apart at the same time. German parts, and British parts might not get along.
Mabye I should have done that first, then the Bug next... NAAAAH! the TR6 still runs!!, oh,.. and the lights still work too!!
