say if i had maybe $1,250 to spend on upgrading my suspension/brakes.. how far could i go?

it will be a daily driven car.. right now it is bone stock with blown shocks all arround. it has 225's all arround with 8 spke empi's..

i am tired of the car jumping all over the place when i hit a couple bumps.

this will not be used for anything extreme.. i still want some improvement and still have a decent ride.

what would you guys reccomend.

Hey Kaka, here is what I got/need for suspension/brakes.

Front '86 (83-86 are basically the same)944 brakes, everything from spindles out, $69 ebay
complete rear suspension '87('87-89 are the same, 85.5-86 won't widen the track as much, and 83-85 control arms are identical to the vw units with a little more internal renforcement) 944 N/A, thats everything including brakes and axles, $140 ebay
Topline Maxx three bolt struts w/ 7/8" swaybar, $600 from www.toplineparts.com
Need:
machine work to 944 hubs and 1302 spindles approx $300 by Laner at VDubCustoms.
New pads/rotors/ and caliper rebuild kits, $388 www.pelicanparts.com
if I really want to go crazy for an extra 600-700 I can go with the 4 pot Brembo 944 Turbo calipers.

What I wish I had done differently, is I wish I had bought the 2 bolt struts from Topline and then the 944 spindles are basically a bolt on deal, but the the early Supa's have beefier cast control arms as opposed to the later 2 bolt 1303 struts with their flimsy stamped control arms. I'll be happy with my three bolt setup none the less. There are several tech articles about these conversions and a whole lot of informative threads if you do a search. You will have to run Porsche wheels after this.

sounds like a plan to me.
i know a 944 i could pull these off of.
but the wheels/tires would put me over the top though..

You should checkout Topline, www.toplineparts.com

front lowering kit for $300
front disk kit for $300
ball joints $45+/- for the pair
idler arm bushing $50
Bushings (control arms/sway bar) $40
steering dampener $30
bump steer kit-$15
upper stress bar- $100 (i think)

add another $100 for sports plus springs. These are tappered and allow a little more room for higher offset wheels (no more than 38mm i think)

If you need more room, you'll need coilovers, like the maxx struts.
