1302 front spring lb rates for racing

A freind is going to order some 2.5 inch springs for his 1302 racer from rallydesign in the uk, they suppy tonnes of different spring rates and sizes but what we need to know is what rate we need to order.

any help would be much appreciated :)

iam running 130lbx10" springs with mk1 golf inserts on 944 strut houesings this is on my 03 which has been built for hill climbs/sprints/trackdays so might be a bit hard for the road.

Hello, I have they same set-up as above but 150lb X 12in springs. The ride is excellent and not too harsh for my liking. If I ever get into racing I would like to try something stiffer. :D

Is it not simply a case of telling them the weights at each wheel, and the intended use of the car? Surely they can just plug the numbers into a formular and come up with the correct spring rating?

I think it depends on the roads in your country / region as well. As VW1303 mentions he uses 150 lbs springs, as do a lot of the Australian guys. A lot of the US guys use 80 lbs springs.

If you can ask those around you who run something similar to what you are wanting and see what they use, OR aim for a spring rate similar to those in a region with comparable roads.

It probably also depends on your personal level of comfort :)

BUT don't go so stiff that your front end bounces over everything... suspension is supposed to allow the wheel to move with the road, not bounce!
