How does the heater in a beetle work?
I can only get a little heat going.
What does the two levers between the seats do?

The 2 levers between the seats control the heat(right lever) and defrost(Left lever). Make sure that all the hoses to and from the heater boxes are secure and have no holes in them. Also make sure that the cables to the heater boxes have no slack in them and that when the lever is raised the flapper opens fully on the heater boxes. Also if the heater chanels have holes in them(rust) heat will escape rather than heat the car.

in the bug.....exaust is cycled through a "jtube"(the rear exhaust pipes) these j tubes travel through a heater box that surrounds the exhaust j tube....tour fan pushes air through those little tubes in the engine bay...and heat travels through tubes in your can....the rear tube splits off into 2 pipes...one dumps under the rear seat...and one goes into that tube by the bottom of the door....then dumps air by your feet and out the little porst by the windshiels(defrost).....you need to check and make sure the rear tubes that dump under the rear seats are off they have a thing to turn and it blocks the air...and like zen said check your cables......they end up at the back of the heater boxes....near your valve covers.....you will most likely have to remove your rear tires....
