the perfect tire for a 17 x 7 is either a 205/40/17 or a 205/45/17.

Fits the rim perfectly with no bulge over and are a very common size for
rice cars, so they are very affordable.

the 40 is 23.45" tall
the 45 is 24.25" tall

I have a rice-like Focus with 215-40-17 Pirelli P-Zero Nero's, and I've been totally impressed with the look and feel of them...except in the snow. WIth 215's you get a little more rubber, and it doesn't hurt anything (though tire stores usually don't recommend it).

you can fit all the way up to a 225 width on a 7" wide rim with no
problems.. Porsche did it on the boxster with 17 x 7s.

Though I dont like the look with the tire bulging over the side of
the rims, nor could I afford the width of the 225 under my front
fenders... on the rear it wouldve worked though
