Not sure what to do now.

I'm installing a modified g60 engine in my 70, and not sure which box to go with. The engine can push 350 ftlbs, and around 300 hp, but thats on the 24 lb pulley. The stock 12psi pulley will give a decent 270 ftlb, and around 220 hp. I guess that means that I need a tranny thats beefier for the torque, but i'm not good at hacking up major vital pieces of metal of the car's support. Is there a type 1 tranny that can solve this, or should I start looking at bus transmissions? I've seen on aircooled.net, and on a few boards that theres parts available now that make the install easier, so you don't have to change the lever, or what ever.

Any info will help,
Thanx

I think Gene Berge has a type1 race tranny that will work for your application. I must say it is very heavy on the pocket book.

it doesnt have to be a Gene Berg tranny, unless you are considering a 5
speed tranny.

If you are going 4 speed, then any reputable shop can build you a race
4 speed with aftermarket ring & pinion and aftermarket gears. Also a gusseted
case would be a good idea, as well as billet side covers and a super diff.

You are looking at around $1500 minimum for a tranny like that, possibly up
to $2000.

If you wanted to save a little money (but with more risk of breaking stuff)
you could go with a Super beetle R&P and a stock 1st & 2nd gear and this
would save you about $500.

A Berg 5 speed will cost you $3000 to $3500 at least.

There are a lot of good transaxle builders out there. Try giving Kevin at KCR a call. He's a straight shooter with a solid reputation. Tell what you have and he'll tell you what you need. And no BS...
