WHo makes a nice looking third brake light for the bugs?

I picked up an LED light bar that sits inside the rear window. I got it from AutoZone.

I got mine from JC Whitney. Not the best quality, but I drive a '58 everyday and wanted to give a bit more warning to followers. I also had to build an extension out of wood to make it tall enough...

I'll vouch for the Lereyn and pulser (http://www.webelectricproducts.com/). With tinted rear window, you can't see the light strip until the LED's fire. The Lereyn LED strip needs to be heated with a heat gun to adjust the angle so its horizontal when installed in the top beading of the rear window. The pulser is a great attention getter, especially with a fast illuminating LED strip. If you can stop on a dime, both are a great insurance policy.

anyone see one made so it shines through the rear engine vent? or is this a bad idea, because of flow?

Yes, I've seen one that was build in the vents under the backwindow. (you have to cut out some metal to even get there.) It was an dutch bug who was driving in front of me at Keverzomerfestijn (2003).

I too thought about this, but the hassle to get it in there wouldn't be worth it.

I've seen this done without cutting. You just have to find a light slim enough to pass through the vents then fish it through with long screw drivers to your mounting spot.

In the future I would like to take one of the carbon fibre roof spoilers and put a light in there. Could make it look very clean and its high up.

I've once seen a drawing of a bug dragracing a golf in a vw scene magazine I believe, that had the 3rd brakelight in the license plate light nose thing (no idea what it's called, hope it makes sence). Eventough it's doesn't sit much higher then the 2 other brake lights, I thought it was a cool idea. Never seen it for reel though. Would love to see a picture of that set up. Was planning on doing that to mine but.....

Don't put your brake light anywhere above the rear window, it's illegal. Only cops, ambulance, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles are allowed to have lights on the roof.

A few thousand owners of pickup trucks and vans are running around illegally then?:lmao:

Maybe the laws are different in Canada, but originally I'm from B.C. too and I don't remember the trucks and vans NOT having 3rd brake lights on the roof.

I got one from Summit Racing (summitracing.com).

I replaced the ugly popes nose on the deck lid with this license frame with plate light and third brake light.
