View Full Version : add a grease fitting?

I was rebuilding the rear end, replacing the rear wheel bearing and was wondering if I could add a grease fitting at the back side of the bearing carrier.

I have an irs bug so if ever needed I could simply add grease at the rear wheel bearings until the grease starts to ooze out the oil seals, this way I know that the bearings are completely packed.

what do you think? The only down side I could come up with is whether or not the hole needed to add the fitting may weaken the bearing carrier, but I don't think this will be much, considering a grease fitting is rather small :)

thanks

also any one use the aftermarket axle spacers?

ac.net sells them and so do a few other places. but what they are, are hd axle spacers, incase you have a damaged one (like me) or need to really torque those axles down because of offroading.

I think they are made from 4130 chromoly and possibly heat treated, don't really know, but anyone use them?

thanks
