I'm about to score a low milage rebuilt tranny and 1.7L combo out of a wrecked 914, and want to use the trans in my '66 Bus.
I've read the other posts and know it can be done in a sedan. Has anybody put one in their bus? And if so, what mods did you need to make.
Photos and advice please.
BTW......... The 1.7 will be built and put in my '71 Super GL project.
Thanks Eric

Okay............ I got the motor/tranny and I'm ready to start fabricatin' (after the Classic).
It's a tail-shifter, and I scored the entire linkage and shifter, so with any luck I should be able to get it working.
I'm still needing advise and direction if anybody's willing to give ideas or suggestions (hint hint)

mulk, at the very least you'll have to flip the diff and get a different nose cone (901,915?) 914's are mid-engine cars, buses are rear engine ;) . There's a lot of info on here about tranny swaps (search). I'm starting a swap in my bug (915), but from what i've read on here about 914 trannys you have to at least flip the diff so your ring gear gives you 5 forward and 1 reverse.

Thanks......... I've been searchin through the searches I've done, and I'm getting some info on the swap from Alex.
When I get going I'll be sure to fully photo and document for future ref/tech

Hi Eric,
I put a 914 tranny in my '67 splitbus.
I posted it here: http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?p=45906#post45906
The bus is not running yet, as a matter of fact is still under huge construction.
The engine will be a 2.2 litre type 4 with almost only Porsche parts.

My restoration on Air to Move is in Dutch, but there are a lot of pictures.
If not clear, feel free to ask here.

:edit:
Of course you do need to make the IRS conversion too...
