hi guys!
I was thinking a lot which door handle choose for my GL. I knew that I want something new, something special. I had many ideas, including Audi handles, early bug's, rabbit's handles, having no handles, etc...and finally I hope I've found it :)
Theese are FIAT Barchetta handles, and on the photo you can see the original one, not mine. Mine will be different in 2 ways: won't have the lock under it, and will be installed "upsidedown" as the VW requires it.
What do you think guys???

those are nice, I welded a set in a VW Jetta for a friend of mine a few years ago and it looked great. He did not have the visible line between the door handle part and the door itself.

hows the long term functionality and durability of those handles? I dig their look, especially if the handle was color matched. Sleek!
I'm looking at handle options right now too. I've got my eye on some Audi handles, but always open to something cool I spot in the yard.

Their durability is like other's, because they are factory made handles just not for VWs. Right after I had this idea, I saw them installed in a Golf V (Rabbit), and they looked neat. Than Tom's Jetta is the 2nd VW I know having them...I thought my bug will be the first VW..but I hope at least it will be the first bug. I'll make photos in a few days of my install.
I've just realized, that it's not the best place for this topic, it should be in BODY/PAINT..I was very tired last night, so sorry about it :o

How did he do that??
the entire thing was metal (don't know if he had that made like that or not) and I just welded it into the door and put bondo over it.

I had to laugh when I saw you had to install it upside-down. The car I had before my slew of VW's was a Fiat. It drove passengers nuts because the cranks turned counter to all other cars when rolling the windows up or down.
Now having said that, if you can pull off those handles on your GL ... They do look very smart indeed. :agree:

Audi handles are very pupular exspecially on rabbits, because they are sunk in the door. You can find tons of pics on the web, but when I'll have time I'll post you some. They usually use the Audi 80's (around'90) or A6's (first gen.)handles if I'm right..

@Tom: it's a good idea, I'll check it if it's too late to do it on mine or not!! Thnx

I missed this post first time around, this is a mod I have been thinking about for years for a future car but I will blend them in to the body and have them inline with the chrome sidetrim to be really subtle and almost disappear without the hassles of solenoids...
Nice!

Back when you mentioned these the first time, I wanted to look up Fiats since it has been years since they have been imported into the United States. I got caught up with a lot of other things and never did.
Now that I see what the handles look like, I must say they are very unique and look nice. Whoever did the work is very good.

What else do you want to know?? If you go on the easier way like I did, you "just" have to fit it upside-down because of it's structure. In this case it's a simple bodywork..I'm sure that could be installed in the original position too, but it looked much more easier and I found it more comfortable when opening the door. Also the design is more attractive for me that the button is on the end instead of the front. More pics in this week.
