Well it is just about time to set off on our rtw journey, the house is rented ,nearly got all the utility bills sorted , the car is in my freinds garage for the year , the bags are packed i'm stressed to the eyeballs as i keep on remembering things i need for the trip when at work so cannot act on them . Cannot wait to get on the plane on Tuesday and let it all drift away ,just enjoy living again ,hopefully next time i post i will be more relaxed (back to my natural state)bumping around in a foreign city with a big grin on my face savouring life again .I am going to try and fit in as many showes along the way as i can ,first stop Thailand
Till the next post then

If you go to Chiang Mai I know a great guy to look up. He's a Canadian Ex-pat who is retired there now and is working on a GL 356.

Hey John,

His name is Robert, he's been trying to become GL.com member but with the new GL antispam stuff, it won't accept his email address. It is:

rgstraghan@yahoo.ca

I'm sure you will enjoy talking with him. Send him off an email. I'll let him know you'll be writing.

speedy, best of luck. sounds like something many of us dreaming of being able to do (i know i do anyway). enjoy it. if you want to post pics of VW places and events you hit, let me know and i will get you access to upload them directly into the gallery. [i am working on this for general access to all members of the site, just haven't completed yet]

jason, sorry for your friends troubles in joining. it is all to keep this board clean from crap. i have seen too many board killed with spam that has to them be cleaned up manually. this is actually an old rule of Sandeep's that i choose/chose to just keep in place. it has worked well so far, but is inconvenient for many.

Hey John,

Robert thinks it would be great to hear from you. He sent me this:

"Would love to meet Speedy, and my mobile is 084 809 6610".

Zen, if there is a way you can manually add his email address, please let me know, he is totally legit.

Hello, it has been a while since i have given an update ,been travelling for 8 months now and have had a fab time , i landed in the U.S.A middle of may and sorted myself a car out Karmann Ghia (not the most practical car for camping ) loved it on sight so that was that LOL .The last few days i have been staying with Jason (volkdent on here) .We have had a great time chatting about cars , modifications and going out for some fantastic meals. It also gave me an ideal opportunity to have a nose round his car and in particular the A arm front end (VVV nice) .I cannot speak highly enough of Jason , he is a really nice guy .Anyway we are off north towards Canada so if anybody fancies meeting up for a chat or drink , drop me a line on here .
Here is a picture of my transport for the next few months and new project when i get home to england
cheers jon

We just had a fab week staying with panel and his wife and eating out far to much and then popped down to atlanta and had a great few days with no h2o (dave DTM Engineering ) , probably made a nuisance of myself poking around daves workshop whilst he was trying to work on that fantastic herbie beetle , in my opinion a testament to his great skill and creativity (thanks for the headlight and stock oem fan housing Dave ).Anyway as a pinnacle to the week we had a barby with dave his wife, Zen and Nigel , a fantastic day and night and a great testament to hospitality i have recieved from the people i have met from this forum. Cheers lads and any time you find yourself in England look me up and expect the same hopitality in return .

We had a great time as well. I am glad you enjoyed hanging out at the shop. It was fun to get a few of us together for a day and have some VW fun. You are welcome here anytime. I wish we could have worked out a day to visit Jake's shop. I think that would have been a treat.
Enjoy the remainder of your vacation and have a safe trip. Anyone who is hardcore enough to tour the US for an extended vacation in an aircooled Ghia is OK in my book. My hat is off to you an Hellen. Keep in touch.:agree:

Jon and Helen,
It was great to meet you and I enjoyed hanging out with you both. I hope you made it home safely. I got home and realized that my Type 34 is the same color and year as your ghia.....just not in as good shape.

Let us know where we can see some of the pics of your awesome trip.
