I thought I saw one on Pelican about a week ago for $500.

Where I got my 915 there were several year 915's to chose from you must know what year you want first. One place that may help on which 915 would be: www.rennsportsystems.com

I'm sure there are other places to find them cheaper (I couldn't find one), but I got one for $1200 :eek: inspected and guaranteed to work, or would replace. They also have "core" 915's for around $700 I think. Turns out I need to re-gear it so, I have to rebuild it anyway :o . Shipping would kill you going to CA though. But, just so you can check it out (go to all wrecked cars, and click on pic of 911 ) under pic's there is some info about each car. Personally I've not had a problem with them (bought most of my Porsche stuff from them), but there are some that had problems. If you have a problem they will fix it. This is just my experience with them.

If anything, at least it gives you an excuse to sit in front of a computer that much longer :rolleyes: .

Which year did you go with and which ring and pinion did you use? I believe early years had 7/31 as well as the 912E (which had a special shaft for t4 engine), but most of the latter models I thought had 8/31. Did you also change the gearing because you picked the wrong year or you need to change any year to work well with Jake's engine, HP/torque range? I haven't talked to Jake other than I was going with a 915 for my roller cam engine. I guess I need to wait until we see the engine specs to know what the best gearing will be, but thought you have already worked through this for your engine. I am going with 17 inch cup wheels, not exactly sure the total height yet, since probably will have 50 series on the back.

My other car has 16 55s in the back with a 914 tranny and the gearing is great for how I like to drive.

I just purchased a 915 from GAD, and paid $500 for it. I took it apart when I received it and it is great shape. Got the 8 31 r & p but was going to change it over to the 912E gearing anyway. You can find their number on ebay under any porsche search. Just call them and ask if they still have any 915 on special. They did a great job of creating it. you can tell they drained the oil and took the rear nose cone off to inspect, but it was a really nice tranny.

That's a sweet deal Z. Joe must be wanting to move some volume out. (He was running out of space when I was there last time)
