Is there anyone out there racing with the topline disc kit?

Obviously the Porsche route would be better but with good tires and pads can anyone tell me why NOT to go with the topline kit (front and rear) on my 230+hp 1302? It's a DD but I would like to be able to stop (every now and then).

I am not a racer but I still will post my opinion.

I own TopLine disks on all four wheels and I love them. They are not cross-drilled because I am not a racer; I figured I needed more surface contact than I needed to dissipate heat.

I haven't had my 1302 dyno'd since getting the Type IV installed but I know it is not 230 HP. As much as I love my brakes, I would look to upgrade the front brakes if I approached your HP.

I don't think one needs to go the Porsche route. One does reach a point of diminishing returns when it comes to brakes. One can reach a point of negative returns even. I don't know where those points are but I have driven a car before that had too much braking.

I would suggest looking into the Golf III or IV brakes (or similar) offered by VeeDubEngineering -- at least for the front; perhaps for front and rear if you didn't want TopLine on the rear. You probably won't ever need them in daily driving circumstances but your ability to accelerate with that much HP (and presumably torque) will decrease your ability to anticiapte driving conditions. It will be at that point you will appreciate a better brake, especially on the front.

If you are going to do any racing, these moments of acceleration and hard braking will probably necessitate you having your brakes cross-drilled. You shouldn't need a proportioning valve, however.

Thanks Oasis, I agree with you on the overdoing part, I mean how much braking force can you get to the road with a 2000lbs car (don't get me wrong though, I'm no expert)? I'll definitely check in to the Golf brakes though.
