The wheel/tire combo i'm trying to stuff in my 74 isn't quite working out. I wanna use stock fenders and have rear wheels tuck up/in the fenders slightly. Thought i had read some where about modifying the trailing arms and using two left automatic type 3 axles. Anyone have any more info about this, details?

narrowing the trailing arms can work well with some combinations, but in my case the limiting factor was the spring plates, make sure thats not the case with your'se, or you could be delving into a whole lot of work for no gain.

Big question I've got is how will that affect handling of the vehicle?

I have also seen the hub assembly narrowed, it involved cutting a square hole through the aluminium caliper carrier and bolting on a new steel plate with holes in to bolt on over the bearing, I think you can save about 18mm per side without having the hassle of modifying axles. There are some pics on VZi somewhere of it done on a very nice black cabrio with fuchs.

Where can i find those pics? The rear rear on mine is still drum braked....no caliper carrier.

Ah, sorry, for some reason I was thinking you had 944 rear brakes, the mod I describe brings 944 width back close to stock.
