Hi folks

When fitting the 901 style (OEM or Bug@5speed) nose cone to the 914 Tail shift trans, in stead of sourcing and pulling the trans apart to fit the long 901 shift rod, would it be possible to cut the 914 shift rod and weld a straight rod onto the end to fit through the 901 nose cone hole, thus replecating the 901 one?

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has done this

Many thanks in advance,
James

That's what I did. I used a VW tranny's hockey stick, and a 914/901 with the square cut from it.

Sorry though, I didn't take any pictures.

That's good advise to add some length between the main pieces. I wish I had when I welded mine together. The shift rod and linkage would have been easier to engineer if the transmission's selector shaft were a couple of inches farther into the opening in the floorpan, but mine works well like it is.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know the length of a standard 901 shift rod?

Cheers
