So I started putting on my new shiny shocks.....
After a battle trying to get the old shock off, I noticed that the bottom spacer on the new shock is shorter than the original one...wtf ?

Did I get the wrong shocks ?
Can I just fill the space with washers ?

And no, the other end of the shock does not have a wider spacer either ;)

Many shock suppliers have only one shock for swing axle and IRS. Problem is, the IRS shock needs the longer bushing. Some supply 2 spacers (kyb). Others make shocks that are specific.
You can make spacers from the bushing of the old shock.

Same issue with my KYB GR-2s. I simply used stainless washers to makeup the differance...

Hi

You can swap the steel sleeve over if you want. Its not very hard. But if you decide to go with spacer washers make sure that they are the correct thickness otherwise you can crush cup that the shock bolts into.

I used a comparably thick stack of washers and new Grade 6 bolts with nyloc nuts. As Steve mentioned, it should be snug but not deform the shock cup...
