Let's make it happen boys. I'm headed down. I might run the bus if I feel brave enough...anyone got a spare motor I can throw in the back just-in-case?

http://www.cpa-pca.org/swap/

Anyone down for a long drive? (about 7.5hrs from GTA) Bring the ear plugs, mittens, scarves, toques and kidney belts if you want to ride in the bus...;)

If you have room in the bus, I have a spare motor to bring! 1600SP that has enough torque to get us there and back a few times over (eventually...)

Alex,

I like your thinking...Single Ports rule! I had the 1500SP in the bus last year (pure stocker down to the exhaust), then I put in a 1600DP with baby webbers and a header etc... Tell the thruth, the 1500SP was way faster around town. The SP's are little mini stump pullers. I'm planning a 1776 SP whenever I have some spare time....

Well you can borrow it, as long as i don't have to sit on it during the trip!

The bus motor isn't done, so she's not going to make the trip. Damn work keeps cramping my vw time! ;-P

I'm down, and so is Nelson. You in for sure Pete? I've got the room booked (3 beds). I guess we'll take my accord. I've got a pair of wheels and some brake rotors waiting for me at the swap. The plan is to hit the road about lunch-ish on Friday, that way we can get in a good dinner before a solid nap. Hit the swap on Sat morning till about lunch, then bugger-back quick time to this side of the border....

The super is definately in need for an upgrade....:) I've got lotsa 944 hubs and rear setups with your name on it.....

Will these wheels and rotors and stuff fit in the hatch? Maybe the Honda? Bigger trunk.

Anyone down for the ride? Pete and Nelson can't make it, and it'll be long drive on my lonesome....

Just got back. I had a great time! A quick synopsis:

I drove the accord down, which was a Godsend. Those mountains in Pennsylvania would have killed the bus with its poor ol' 1600. 5-8% grades are commonplace and there are a couple 10 percenters. On the way back I had to 'take-a-gear' on an uphill, but the car was loaded up heavy.

The swap was great. Alot of vendors with good prices. I picked up some stuff I needed like the much elusive 993 spare tire. I got some boxster rotors for my super, and some other little stuff. One guy had a 944 on the trailer that had previously been relieved of its motor and interior, and he only wanted $C100 for the rest of the car. If only I had a trailer... but, he said I can self-pick what I want. I couldn't resist, I grabbed some tools and pulled off a couple small things for a very reasonable price. Even though I try, I seem to always get my hands dirty!

Quite a few guys had the early carrera drum brakes, about $2800 for a clean pair

The show was amazing. I'd guesstimate about 500 P-cars. The star of the show was a real 917, that was DRIVEN there. Yup, seven figure car driven to the event. I don't even want to know what his insurance premiums must be....:)

The owner was really cool, and I spoke with him for a bit. He even left the car while he grabbed a bite to eat with all the doors open for all to see. The motor has gotta be worth 150K:

There were tons of cars, all kinds of rare stuff like real RSR, gruppe B 911, lotsa 356's including a couple pre-a's. Here is a pre-A hubcap shot with my ugly mug:

There was a crew of 6 GT3's showing up together, crazy times...

It was a good time. I'm definately in for next year, and I'd like to run the bus down. I got out-of-dodge after lunch and had a relatively uneventful drive back. I did hit a strong thunderstorm going through the town of Bath, New York, which I thought was hilarious, but then again I had been driving for hours so I was easily amused...:)

At the border, the border gaurd looked at all the stuff I had on the back seat, in the trunk and on the front seat and just shook her head. I was WAY over my allowable spending limit (and claimed it honestly), but I guess she didn't feel like digging through the greasy parts..."Have a good day sir" she said as she returned my passport. Ah, fortune smiled at me.....

I called ya today, but no answer. I'll get you your stuff soon.

Speakin of Porches.... I actually get full use of an '81 911 for a week when i go to BC in July. Unfortunately the family friend who is letting me enjoy it is not trusting enough to let me have his Testarossa for the week :( At least i'll get to drive it!:D

Ahhh man..... great pics!

There were a few. I was eyeing a 69 T, fully restored to gorgeous condition for 22.5. It's hard finding an older 911 that isn't a targa, cuz man I hate targa's. Ideally I'd like a short wheelbase car, but they are very difficult to find in good shape.

If (er, I mean when) I buy a 911, I want a 67S or 68S. I know, I know, keep dreaming right?

OH, and one more swap story. One guy had a pair or early 7" fuchs. These are super rare, they only came on the 67 (maybe 68) R's. I think he had a $2800 sticker on EACH wheel. I guess you gotta have the coin if you want to hang with the big boys....hehe
