Narrowing my 68 rear? (This is not a diet!)

I would like to narrow my 68 Beetle rear 2" to 2 1/2" for wider tires
and tub my body, any ideas on cutting the trailing arm assembly,
sub-frame, torsion bars, etc???

If you want to keep the torsion bar set-up Ron Lummus Racing(spelling?) sells some shorter torsion bars, axles, and tubes for this IIRC. Or you can go pro street route and use a four link with coil overs. Also, if this is a IRS pan, then you will have to use a swing axle set-up. There are other more time consuming and $$$$ ways to do this to have IRS though.

What wheels and tires are you looking to installing? I've had 235/35-17 tires tuck stock fenders on my super on 17x7 wheels. Also, with the right offset you can get a 8" wheel to tuck....

I'll check out Lummus Racing, but you have the right idea I had thought of going with a four link with coil overs from Summit racing with modified diagonal arms and lose the torsion bars, spring plates, etc? I going to tub the back and run 17x8 rims and 245 to 255 tires? I 'm also going to run a turbo 914 or older 911 Porsche motor!

Hi, going wider tires for a IRS is not that big of a problem. If you are willing to shorten the axel, then why not use wider fender? I will be running 10 rims by using wider fenders. If its just to get the tires under the fenders, use wider ones. These are 10 cookie cutter;

You can also shorten you trailing arm by 1" per side, and a 8 inch rim will fit within stock fenders. I did a set of trailing arm myself, but have not needed them yet.

Hello, the cookies were 6". But there is a person here in Southern California, that mods, welds, and repair Alum rims. He lathed out the center section of the cookies cutters, added a 10" blank. From the out side you can't tell anything was done. On the inside there is a complete automated weld, very professionally done.

I am running 7" wide wheels with 225/60-15 tires with lots of room to spare under 1.1/4" widened fenders.
