Okay, I have been looking at all sorts of cars to be my next GL project ... and now I am reconsidering my stance to bypass the Super Beetle as a platform. I know there have been some threads about swapping a R&P unit into a pre-1975 model year Super, even into a 1302. I may even have some printed stuff from before I bought my '71 1302.

My question now is more geared towards racers and those who have worked (or played) with racers as they may have a leg up on this. If I were to get a '75 1303 that already has R&P steering, what would be the process of determining if I should get a modified steering unit and how does one go about having it installed (assuming the answer is, "Yes, it would be a good idea.")?

(I think I remember them being called "quick steer units.")

I got the new VW magazine the other day.....

They have a way cool article on an A-arm set up for the Ball joint beam beetle. It comes with a rack & pinion set up. Maybe this will work for you.

Wow! That wasn't exactly what I was after with my question BUT I love that idea if I should GL a Thing. I would think this would appeal to a few standard owners on this forum.

I'll have to scrounge up a copy of the magazine. Very cool.

Hi, a GL Thing will look good as long as you throw a ton of money at it. Just like the GL 1303/1302, you have got to be willing to throw a ton of money at them:o . In the end, man they can look O sooo nice:D

Haha, money seems to be the operative word no matter what direction I go. But I've done it once and I miss my li'l Super, so ... :p
