Hello, I had put this (http://www.germanlook.com/Html/Tech/Tech13Porsche944PartNumbers.htm) up a while back to help answer these kind of questions.

There ya go, that should be a sticky in the to-be-formed "Brakes" section!

Lol, Jason ;) * tisk * tisk * ...from an engineering point of view, the hub and spindle is part of the suspension. Only the caliper and disc are the brakes. :o

i have a small problem fitting porsche wheels to my early 944 spindles... any advise?

I have fitted early 944 spindles etc to my 03 cab and have tried fitting 17 x 7 ET 55 boxster wheels with 205/40's (later ones from an 03) to the car and can not the centre caps on as the dust caps protudes to much, they do fit ok with 10mm spacers but then i will havbe to get wider wings to accomadate.... I have tried another 17x7 et 55 late carrera wheels and have the same problem... Has anyone else had this problem or do i need early cup wheels 1's 2's or 3's? pics of the wheels below i tried to fit,

Love that wheel BTW.

I would modify the grease cap if at all possible.

Yeah, it's a common problem. The 944 hubs in general were intended for the early offset wheels, and with the late offset wheels there isn't enough room for the dust caps. Typically, when I'm machining the hubs for beetle bearings I will trim the snout of the hub down to give the clearance. It depends on the wheel. Cup 1's, 2's fit well.

The other option is to forgo the 944 dust cap. Seal the wheel center cap with silicone tot he wheel, and glue a small piece of aluminum with a square hole to the back of the wheel cap for the speedo drive. I've done that on my bus for a 2 years now without issues. The wheel pilot seals very well onto the hub, so water and dust infiltration isn't an issue. I'll try and get a pic of the square drive...

looked at that but it sat to close to the wheel, shame as i had collected for front rims 17x7 so not having to put wide arches on... no worries as i sold tham on sat for a gut to put on his bus.. will keep a look ot for cup 1's or 2's then had 2's and 3's on my bay, is the 50-55 offset the best? what width rears can i get under a stock arch with 944 n/a rear brakes?
