Hi

I went a car show a few hours down the coast, I found my old 1302 which I sold in 2004 so I parked next to it to get a few photos.

Pics work for me

Hi

My coil on plugs ignition system was letting me down. Thanks to AFI in Peakhurst I bought some LS2 truck coils along with connectors for a good price, when I get these hooked up I will go back to the dyno for some more boost.

Hi

I bought some 6x15 Cookie cutter and had new tyres fitted, 205/50x15 Mickey Thompsons and 195/55x15 Goodyears.

Running at VW only drag meet in a few weeks time, I have been running 245/40x18 Mickeys at the drags and the Snowy Moutains 1000.

The 18s had a diameter of 651mm, the 15s have a diameter of 588mm so these should help with acceleration.

1st gear @ 8000rpm will now do 73 instead of 82 kph
2nd gear @ 8000rpm will now do 125 instead of 139 kph
3rd gear @ 8000rpm will now do 182 instead of 197 kph
4th gear @ 8000rpm will now do 239 instead of 258 kph
5th gear @ 8000rpm will now do 299 instead of 323 kph, all theoretical of course

Hi

Just had my exhaust coated at Hi Octane coatings in Rydalmere, they did a great job. So hopefully more power for the Snowy Mountains 1000.

I also found that my infernal, sorry internal wastegate was open which now explains the funny noise the motor was making, not to mention that power had dropped off, sounded like squeaking cam belt bearing, I've been pulling parts off the car for weeks trying to track down the noise.

Also took the opportunity to fit a better up pipe. I also put an extra spring in my wastegate, its now running 19 psi gate pressure.

Another tune next week with LS2 truck coils, should make more power

The 15" tire combo is certainly a good idea with dragracing. You only mention ratio's, but the weight advantage might help even more ;-)

Didn;t know that the suby had log-style exhaust manifolds!? Even more power, especially up top, can be had with a decent 4 into 1 exhaust header.

Best of luck at the races!

The wheels look gorgeous!

Hi

Thanks guys. The 15 inch wheels are very light compared to 18x8 Cayenne wheels and 245/40 Mickey Thompsons I was using.

These tyres really hook up well and I think they will still work good even though they are smaller width.

I'm not that much into drag racing, I mainly bought these for when but when I do the Snowy 1000 its on an airport runway so no burnouts or slicks are allowed.

I've match ported the exhaust headers to the heads, there are Subarus running 9s with stock headers. None of the off the shelf 4 into 1 headers work very well on a Beetle, they are way too low.

Any pics with the new wheels on Steve? I do quite fancy a smaller set with some semi-slicks but would have to get the fitment right... The Vredesteins I've got stuck really well at Spa though so not sure how much I'd gain.

Steve C September 15th 2015 17:14

Hi Rich

I will put them on in 2 weeks, I'm going to a VW drag event then, road trip this weekend to Canberra and the tune next week. I'm really interested to see the improvement in acceleration with smaller wheels.

With my 944 rear arms the 6 inch wheels fill the rear quiet nicely, not sure how the front will look.
