If you mean fully prepared CF sheets in epoxy, then they won't become any more pliable with heat. Epoxy (and polyester resin, and vinyl ester) is a thermoset plastic. Once it cures, the heat needed to soften it is great than the heat needed to destroy it. The plastic matrix will fail and probably burn before is gets soft enough to form.

Now, alternatively, you could always just get CF cloth and epoxy and lay the carbon up right onto whatever part you're trying to cover, or make a mold of that part and duplicate it in CF.

Peace be with you.

Are you sure it's a weight thing? Since paint isn't that heavy anyway, I would suspect the vinyl that the wrap is made from would be comparable if not heavier. Using a wrap probably just makes getting all of the sponsor decals on and neat easier, plus fancier graphics can be done really cheaply because the vinyl is just printed out. For a real painter to do all the fancy paint work would cost a lot more, and not be as consistent.

I agree. In fact the weight saving is equal to the weight of the paint in the can before its put in the gun. What it all really boils down to is aesthetics.

What about the weight of the solvent? That's going to evaporate.
I agree that in most cases it's ultimately aesthetics.

chug_A_bug October 2nd 2008 04:58

I don't think he Makes them

Once the epoxy matrix is hardened, he won't be able to form it to the shape of the dash.

Your best bet if you want a CF dash is to layup your own CF and epoxy right onto your dash, but getting your fibers lined up all pretty will be tough.

Are the bumpers that Joe makes for a 1302 or a 1303?
