Looks very nice. Do you have any pictures of your process of widening the front? I liked seeing how you got the rear to look right

Looking really nice!

It's been a while since my last post here, but i do have things to share (sorry for the huge pictures but my new blog stores them this way..)
So, new carpets for february: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bHgK7GHi4i...203_191839.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NrrfT5KGQn...203_191859.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-72YxnOU-cA...203_191913.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJQ294r1nE...203_191930.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d4L4SzcvVi...203_191944.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Oml2wuvvIt...203_191937.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NSq6Mde0A2...203_192735.jpg |
I changed my rear tyres from 215/45 to 205/45 as I needed more space for fender clearence.
Sidenote: Originally I was planning 205/45 as well but the PZero I put on the 8" had too much strech for my taste so I upgraded to 215. As PZeros are not available in 215 I bought a pair of new Conti Premium2s that seemed to be at least 225s or so when monted! Long story short I found that Contis are more robust, while Pirellis are more narrow than any other tyres in the same size. Finally I choose Michelin PilotSport3, it is said to be a very good street tyre on low weight cars (MX-5, Clio Sport etc.) and the 205/45 fits perfectly for the 8 wide rims, exactly what I wanted at the beginning. Than came 6 month pause due to a knee injury  Good opportunity to order the missing parts and to think about detailing.

Guys, i need your input on wheel alignment. What do you suggest for a road car? Will be driven in city, in twisties and on motorways as well. On the front i have stock parts except the camber+ bolts from topline, so i can adjust 1 degree more negative camber or so, back is from a stock 944 na. I have read different setups here, so real life experiences would be nice. Thanks!
|
Oh, I love how this turned out...
The fender widening is so subtle I didn't even notice it at first! IMHO, You want as much camber in front as you can get. Unless you have over-steer issues, it's not enough. In the rear, as the car is lowered, you get too much camber. The 944 spring plates can help, but often do not do enough. So, as much camber as you can get in front, As little in the rear... |

As for camber I thought about -1 in front and -0,5-1 in rear. For toe zero in front ant slightly toe in on the back...but exact numbers based on experiences are still well come. |
|
Very nice!!!
|
what front seats are these? i love them. also with them being fixed back, how will people get to the back seat? or is the back seat just their for looks?
|
Thanks.
No way carrying extra weight without function :) Back seat is in place for hiding the audio (future plans) and sound isolation purpose. Though I'm pretty sure you will find no passangers on the rear bank, but it is still nice to have access to the battery area or throw a bag there. On page 3 you find pics about the Wiechers seat consoles i am using, they are designed to pop the seats forward so there you go. I was told they were Recaros but can't prove that as i could find no signs at all. Bought them in Germany (from a nice BMW2002), maybe they are vintage Konig or Wiechers ones. However they are bucket seats the back is still adjustable in a 0-15 deg. range that's why you can see the adjuster on the outer side. Might be useful during a longer trip. They weigh only 6 kgs each, way less than the previous Sparcos (recliner) did. |
nice. ya im looking to get some seats like that as well. i also wanna get some green plaid inserts to match my car as well. i love the look. keep up the good work.
|
Still a lot to do, but today it passed it's first MOT!!! It's a pitty I haven't driven it yet as now it is 200+ kms away from me

Nice tow rig

After 3 years, yesterday I finally drove it! Engine sounds good, brake and suspension feel ok, no oil leaks so I'm happy with it.

nice looking 1302.
back is a little too low for my taste. |
She's a beauty...
Definitely a huge motivation to get my little red bug back on the street again! Greetings, Tobi |
Just Beautiful...
A style of build user 'vujade' coined - "Resto German". Subtle, understated, OG in the details... Love it! The ride height/stance is perfect. Rake is for Cal-Lookers. |
Oh, and, can you explain the oil pressure gauge fitting?
??? |
Thanks for the comments, guys!

I'm trying to keep the dash simple, so originally inteded to make a nice custom bracket for the rearview mirror and put these gauges there, similar to this: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...5.jpg~original I did the wiring too, but the wire harness seems to be too wide to make it invisible..at least need more time for that project. I wanted to drive the car ASAP and found a gauge holder in the garage that doesn't fit in the radio area. Again, I'm sure I will not put them there as I'm not a fan of the space shuttle style dashes. Will cover the hole with a c/f plate or similar and try to find a good place for the gauges. (Maybe under the dash?) Regarding the stance the back is a tad lower than I wanted (hard to set the TB bars without the full interior). I'll see how it performs in city driving & on speed bumps than will raise a spline later if needed. But no rake at all. |
I love the way it looks! As SteveC said, the color combo is excellent. Personally, I like the rear exactly as it sits. Unless it causes problems, I would probably bring the front down ever so slightly to match the rear.
