Ok well we will send you the info on a Farrie for you so we can all get a ride in the USA..
lol Looks great man I hope my next ride turns out to be HALF as stunning as yours.. Peace Troy |
Cheers guys, this weekend the narrowed beam was pulled off and painted in two pack silver (base coat clear coat) then refitted and aligned (roughly). Here is a quick pic of the holley blue pump and braided lines along with the Golf master cylinder.
http://www.netspot4u.com/~manxclub/a...ul17.sized.jpg The adjustable Koni red shocks were also refitted - had to put them to the 'soft' setting as the tension in the narrowed torsion leaves was too high so when they were on the stiff setting, it was rock hard. The car should be ready to fire up in about two weeks (have to sort out oil pressure sender and sync carbs, along with a few other bits and pieces like bleed brakes so I can stop) ;) Alan http://www.netspot4u.com/~manxclub/a...ul17.sized.jpg |
Wow! Fantastic job!! Love everything on it! If you donīt mind I have 2 questions, what paint (paint code) is that? Where did you get your front speaker panels?
Thanks Mark |
Yes PLEASE Make it so you can stop!!! I dont wanna see the next pic coming in with a punched in nose after all that work.
All i can say about that car is WOW That is a Concours Excellence car! :righton:  |
Hey Alan
PROPS PROPS PROPS.. What fuel pump & regulater are you using? That looks klean as hell.. Peace Troy (getting my 40's in a week) |
Thanks guys,
re. paint code - it is a bit of a custom mix so no specific code re. speaker pods - I made them myself - see this link for full pics: http://www.netspot4u.com/~manxclub/gallery/album221 re. pump and reg - Holley blue pump combined with holley red (lower pressure) regulator in engine bay - this will be set to around 3psi The rear end is a bit too high now after readjustment but I will leave it as is for the initial break in just so I don't have to worry about bottoming out on any bumps. I will fine tune it once again later on. Alan |
Alan,
If it's "OK" with you, I'll be sending you my oval window ragtop and about $20,000.oo USD. I would like an exact copy of your car, just done in blue....Car will be at your place in about 4 weeks.... LOL SERIOUSLY...... your car is FANTASTIC !!!! AWSOME job, and very clean looking !!!!! PS..... what master cylinder are you using??? Is that from a golf??? |
Cheers Rhino - much appreciated. I look forward to seeing your beetle arrive :p
Yep, master cylinder is from a golf. |

There is hopefully a pic attached to this message but not the normal way since the hosting site I normally upload pics to is down at the moment.

hey Dasdubber I too am looking into anti theft stuff, check out my post. But I am curious about the engine immobilisers I noticed this is a big thing in Australia. Is there a good company your looking at? I wondering if I can find somthing more local. thanks |
Congrats! Get us some videos of it in action if you can. She sure looks purdy!
Jason |
wow! no doubt one of the phatest bug I saw.
|
Thanks guys - yep I am very happy to get it running! (finally)
Haven't completed the audio yet (still working on the amp surrounds to house distro block etc). Re. alarm/immobiliser, I haven't finalised on a particular brand just yet but I will update any progress on the "another beetle audio install" thread in the other section. I am going to talk to the local car audio place shortly (that is where I have got all my other gear from). Re. vids - I have some of the first voyage - once the website that hosts my pics is sorted out (having some problems at the moment) I will try and get them up and post a link here. Cheers again Alan |
The site I have been storing my pics is still down so just went the photobucket option - here are a couple of pics not long after it made its maiden voyage:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...1.jpg~original I messed about a couple weeks back and made some fibreglass eyelids and shot them in two pack body colour. Gives it a bit of an angry look. Can't decide if I like them or hate them....the good thing is they go on and off easily with double sided tape. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...2.jpg~original http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...2.jpg~original And one last shot for now: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...7.jpg~original The car obtained engineer's certification last week and roadworthy certificate - hopefully will be registered and insured this week, plus wheel alignment. A new amp will be replacing those above so that will be documented soon. |
The car looks fantastic!!! :agree: :agree: I don't care for the eyelids. IMO, they detract from the 911 lenses and the overall front end. Leave them for the New Beetles...
|
Yeah I was just messing around with them to see what they'd look like. They are different but don't think they will be seeing much time on the car! :p
|
Finally the Beetle made its first show appearance (at a generic custom car show in town) - this is the first decent pic of the Beetle with a decent camera - courtesy of justdavephotography.com. Captures the paint pretty well although needs full sunlight to really jump to life.

WOW !!!

All the images I had attached were down for quite some time, but finally the gallery is back up and running again (although because the links have changed the images still won't be visible in this thread) - but here is the new link to see all the pics from start to finish (well almost finished):
http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album95?page=1 Oh yeah, here is a link to a movie of the first run on the day of fire up (dial up users beware) - I will get some clearer vids/sound some time soon. Just click on the movie camera icon thingy. http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album06/MOV00060 |
OK, now how about smoky-sideways-tailwaggin videos?
Jason |
Hey Jason - I'm workin on the smokin vids - I can't wait to change the cam though (why I kept the stock cam I have no idea - stupid me!).
Few recent pics... http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...2/coomera4.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...2/coomera5.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...2/coomera6.jpg |
I have entered a few shows lately and picked up a number of trophies which is a bonus. The intention was never to build a show car (it gets driven often - not a daily driver but each weekend it gets a thrashing), but the awards mean a lot considering I have done the majority of the work (especially the award for best paint on the weekend just past - not bad considering it was my first full respray - done in my old mans garage).
Cheers Alan http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...rys1.sized.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...52/harrys4.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...2/coomera3.jpg |
I've been having heaps of fun giving the beetle a good thrashing on most weekends. On long runs it has been running hot, however this could be a combination of mixture and timing. I have decided to add an external cooler though for some piece of mind. The fan will be switched so once the temp gets to a certain range, I can flick it on/off manually (could have run a thermostat/bypass but for now this will suffice).

I am glad I made the rear apron removable! Cheers Alan |
Just a quick update pic at a show on the weekend. Picked up another few awards which was cool, but most satisfaction is from the compliments from people on the street - certainly lots of fun to drive! Stayed a lot cooler with the cooler and fan going (max 210F whereas before it was getting up to 240F).
http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...um152/avw2.jpg Obviously I had finished the cooler install before the run: http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...oler5_Feb7.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...ler7_Feb13.jpg http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/a...oler6_Feb7.jpg |
Respect your eye for detail!!
Great work mate! :D |
Cheers Wiebrand - your project is coming along great as well! :agree:
|
