GUTTED!

http://members.lycos.co.uk/vdubhub/a...11-SubDied.htm

My expensive sub isnt working anymore :( Havent even used it yet, but it was second hand... Worked when I got it... :(

Felt like I was going to be sick when we worked out what had happened, so threw in the towel and walked away from the car for the rest of the day (this was yesterday)

We think we can fix it, will be an interesting story if we can!

Cheers,
SAm C

Sorry for the lack of updates... Parents are moving house soon so I HAVE to get the car done and out of the garage.... So been concentrating on finishing up various jobs.
I *promise* to take my camera down there this weekend and snap a few shots.... Its all starting to come together!

For now:

The stereo sounds MEAN, really clean but kicks like an evil mule!

Made a piece for the oil temp sender to fit into. Didnt like any of the commercially available mountings so we made one
http://members.lycos.co.uk/vdubhub/a...empFitting.JPG
Very much a before and after shot

Didnt much like any of the solutions for fitting the twin oil pressure sender with the dizzy, extended pipes and questions of where to mount it...
http://members.lycos.co.uk/vdubhub/a...erAndDizzy.JPG

Simply rethreaded the bottom of it so it isnt tapered as much anymore, lits it fit in far deeper, a very slight dent in the top corner and the dizzy fits right in next to it

Fuel pump under the bonnet. Red top

Regulator will be in the engine bay.

And the money shot, the engine so far

Should be laying on the last of the paint on the body tomorrow, and restprotecting the chassis/pans.

Just gotta wait for the replacement stubs for the exhaust and finish off a few little jobs and we are ready to fire her up

CANT WAIT!

Looks nice Sam.
Bet you are itching to hit the road.

samcat August 7th 2005 16:14

Too right I am, cant wait :)

Todays work:

Another coat of paint on the sides, as it was a little thin in places. Looks good as is, but gonna flatten with 1500/2000 then polish up for a really nice finish:)
http://members.lycos.co.uk/vdubhub/a...07_2ndCoat.JPG

And I refinished some of the carbon, it had gone very crappy in the british weather, had horrible chalk marks on the carbon from the rain! So out with the 400 grit wet and dry, then 1000 then 1500 grit... Clean it up and let it dry (wet sanding it), then a coat of 2pack Lacquer and it looks superb! Better than new

Yes a good Color Sanding and buff job will make all the differance in a great paint job. Carefull on the edges  hate to see you have to respray.

Will be fine :) Have colour sanded before, and have a proper random orbital doofer for the polishing ;)

The carbon is going to get the same treatment, its going to be flat sanded with 1500 to knock the high spots off, and a second coat of lacquer, then same as the paint, 1500, 2000 then polish up :)
Should look superb!

Holy moly Samcat that is one fine 'dub :) . Only problem being that I know mine will never look half as good , but has certainly inspired me to have a go :) .

Well done mate and I look forward to seeing it in the flesh at a VW meet next year

Rear end is all rebuilt, but I didnt take any photos (yet)... Took her for a drive the other night and you can just feel the power, even though I am taking it easy on the break in.

:D

Just about finished for now, few jobs left to do.
