Say Hi to the new GL project!!
After 12 hours of driving total she has arrived home, my new 1973 Super Beetle Sedan. When i got there i knew what to expect but not this much. Not only is she rust free and fully intact...she runs too!!!! $500 well spent i must say. All doors open smooth, windows roll up and down easily and all lights are in working order...the engine could use a slight tune up ( been non op for 3 years) but other than that she is awesome. I just need to have some time to rip off all bad parts and replace them with new ones, like fenders, door panels, etc, simple things really.
ENJOY the pics http://fototime.com/{48A16E51-E3F5-4...D}/picture.JPG http://fototime.com/{7301C73E-5C22-4...2}/picture.JPG http://fototime.com/{D1A5DA84-EDAA-4...1}/picture.JPG http://fototime.com/{053D649B-30A5-4...2}/picture.JPG |
The plans for it are make it a daily driver, stock engine for a while because i want it to sip on gas during these high gas price times. Of course it will get some nice disc brakes, blacked out trim, all interior will be black, Maxx Struts, and 17 inch Porsche Cup wheels or twisties i am not 100% yet but heres what i want it to look like in the end.

Brian,
looks like a nice solid base car :-) You think you have high fuel prices? We are about to hit £1/litre in the UK.. Jeff, Start a new thread, it will be a long one! What plans for the ecotec, will it fit under the decklid? paint? are those wheels on properly? brakes? Looks like it has a bright future! Rich |
Rich,
Waaaayy too early to start a build thread, but you bet I will when it kicks off. I am at LEAST a year away from being able to invest in parts. I dont have any concrete build plans yet, other than the Ecotec. I bought that used engine and ordered an adapter from KEP (pretty much my parts budget for the year  ) so I can do some mock ups, trying to show some folks over at the STF what it takes to get it in a stock bodied bug. I guess I could start a thread on that part once I start mock up. The trouble for me, and I've watched others do the same, is getting carried away with the build. If I'm gonna do this, might as well do that. Next thing you know, a simple brake upgrade turns into a tube frame balls out money pit. Too much dreaming/designing going on right now in my brain. Jeff- **Forgot to add, wheels are some old 19s that are unusable. Just rolled up into the openings, no suspension in the front and swing in the rear **** |
My ears were burning....carried away huh?!! Both of these should turn out pretty good is my guess.

:D I wasn't pointing any fingers!
My first thought is to try and keep it simple and low cost and just focus on the Eco conversion but there's always sooooo much trick stuff being done on here that my imagination gets to cooking and I want to take it to the ultimate... deep breaths, calm down, keep it simple. :bawling: Jeff- |
nice buy
nice buy Brian
Jeff love the wheels and I thought of using the same motor will an early deck lid close I,m moving the gearbox 75mm forward please let me know how it works out cheers Malcolm |
Malcolm,
Its just sitting on the floor in the pics, I'll start a whole thread once the adapter comes in and I start trying the mockup. Jeff- |
You know what I'M thinking.... Audi tranny, ecotec mid-engine,coilover conversion with double-wishbone rear end, throw in a turbo for good measure... Hey, you know Hugo might be able to shed some light on that...:D  }:]
OOops, You know there was a nasty rumour going around that Jeff was a threadjacker......He also tries to get others to join him in his online mischief. Jason |
Brian its going to be hard to keep it simple all projects start out I,m just going to :agree:
|
Brian,
I really like the clean look of your 'vert. I'm sure now that you're doing a hard shell, it's gonna look as smooth as the pics you picked to build from. Those type of deals just don't happen in my part of the country, VWs here are completely worn into nothing or swiss cheese or both. I would love to find a commuter ride like that and build it just like you said. I paid $500 just for the shell/pan you see in the pics, it is rust free but thats about it, pretty rough all over.
