Possible New GL Project?

Well, I just found out about this EBay auction yesterday for a right hand
drive '62 Notch with 4 1/2" Fuch wheels front & Deep 6 Fuch wheels rear.
(About $2300 in wheels alone)

So this morning the auction was ending & I decided to bid and ended up in
a bidding war with 2 or 3 other guys. I figured worst case scenario, I would
bid up to $2300 (the value of the wheels), but no higher. Well I ended up
winning the auction for $2275

So Im thinking Ive always wanted a set of 4 1/2" fuchs and was planning
on using Fuchs on my Cal Look ragtop Im building, so I could keep the Fuchs
and feel good that I bought a Notch (which I was gonna buy anyways)
and got the Fuchs for free... or

I could sell the Fuchs and get a Notch for Free (seeing as I was gonna
buy my brothers Notch anyways) And this Notch would be pretty cool
GL Project seeing as it is right hand drive and already set up for Porsche
Wheels... or

If the Notch doesnt turn out to be a good GL/resto candidate, I could always
sell the 62 Notch and probably get the Fuchs for Free to put on my ragtop
bug and stil buy my Brothers Notch...

decisions, decisions, decisions

I will wait until I pick up the car to make them of course :D

What can I say, its a sickness!

Really Joe, you don't need the notch.
You should keep the wheels and find the notch a new home. You've already got lots of cool projects to work on... somewhere there is someone dying to get their hands on a notch to build... possibly someone in Tennessee who loves GL... ;)

Well that is a possibility... though I wont be making any desicions until
I see the car in person :)

Seriously, I think I may need help. The only thing stopping me from buying
even more VWs then I already do, is me being limited by my funds. I think
if I had Jerry Seinfelds money I would have even more VWs then he has
Porsches. Plus I would have some of his Porsches thrown in for good measure :D

Its anyone wants to start a support group, we could call it Volksaholics Anonymous :banghead:

rustbucket June 7th 2005 13:40

Well, if you do decide to sell it, you've got my number.

You don't need anymore projects anyway :D And you don't want to hassle with taking it all the way to Tenn. :D

Panelfantastic June 7th 2005 17:37

Who said he had to deliver?

NO_H2O June 7th 2005 18:02

I don't know if I should start to sqeeze in a shot for the Notch or get in line for the support group. With 2 Ghias, 3 bugs and a Bus on my property right now. I think I need the suport group more than a Notch.

But it is right hand drive :bawling:

Panelfantastic June 7th 2005 18:37

If my wife sees this thread, you might not hear from me for a while. Even joking around about buying another project could be hazardous to my health!
Just days away from getting in our new house...

I can relate to that, thats probably one of the reasons why Im not
married any more...

vujade June 7th 2005 21:13

Well I just found out my 61 Rag will be here next Wed as well... :D

I got to get some of my cars sold to make some room for my new girls :banghead:

Mikey June 7th 2005 21:33

What would "Volksaholics Anonymous" say about this roster of cars?...

1947 Split-window, 1951 Split-window, 1952 Zwitter, 1953 Zwitter, 1955 Oval-window, 1956 Slide roof Oval, 1957 Slide roof Oval, and a 1959 Hardtop Dropped headlight Ghia.

He's trying to get all the 50's, he's only missing a 1950, and a 1954. Anyone selling one or the other, or both? ;)

I have to say, they're not mine. Although I do help build and maintain them.

vujade June 7th 2005 21:40

I noticed you didnt mention a 58? I have a 58 rag project for sale :)

I wasn't very specific when I said 50's I meant '57 and down. More or less. MAYbe 58', and a 59'. I doubt he'd go that far for a '58. All the cars he has now we all found with in a 5 hour drive from his house, the '47, '51, '52, and '55 were all bought from the same guy, less than 30 minutes away from his house. They're hard to find, but they are out there. :p He has driven to FL before, pulling cars, but he doesn't think he'll do that again. I would in my Ghia though.

vujade June 12th 2005 21:11

picking up the Notch on Wedneday....hopefully it will be in good shape :)

Updates on 62 RHD Notch...

I spent a few hours cleaning it up yesterday to get all the leaves and dirt
out of the car to see how much work it would really need. I started to
consider to build this car seeing as it is not a total basket case. It is alot
of work and more then I have ever tackled.

Latest news, talked with BKC Prez, Scott Jones this morning and he is
definitely interested in buying the car. He is going to let me know by
Friday if he can get up the funds. He will be building the car as a GL and
will join the club as well. We'll see what happens later this week :)

So if no one buys it it will probaby become a long term GL project.

In the meantime, I am getting closer to purchasing my brothers 69 Notch
which is a driver with 1776 T1. All it needs is a set of Porsche wheels and
it will be GL ready. It wont be a show car, but it will be a very nice driver
for now while I am building/finishing my 61 Ragtop Street/strip Car :D

I would like to see Scott get the car. Not only would he do a fine job with it (dude can weld), but we would have converted a BK guy to a VKG guy. That is worth miles of smack talking

Does the 69 notch have disc brakes? The VKG Prez. needs a VKG car.

Yes the 69 Notch has disc in the front and drums in the rear. I will most
like redrill everything for now to the Porsche pattern and get some nice
17" wheels to get it going :)

Notchs are cool!

Granted that one does look like a lot of work to get it nice.

... What is the story on the '58 rag? :)

The wife and kids are gone for two weeks so i can get back to VW work in peace!

Notchs are way cool!!! I really want to keep this Notch and have it as
a long term project plus buy my brothers Notch as a daily driver until it
is finished. We will see what happens and whether or not Scott buys it.

The 58 Rag just got sold on Sunday and the Super was sold on Wed.
I bought a 61 Rag in much better condition to replace the 58. i will
hopefully have the 61 ready for the fall show season :)

NO_H2O June 22nd 2005 00:40

I don't think Scott will go for the $2000-$2500 range for the car after talking with him tonight. He knows it is RHD but having no wheels or engine coupled with the rust repair needed he thinks the price is out of the range he is looking for.
Sure would like to get him into a GL car before he goes for a Fridolin. I will help him look for one. He made me a killer deal on a 66 Beetle (I will finish for my daughter). It's a total pan off resto, just got a crapy prep/paint job, that pissed the owner off so he pulled it from the shop and bought another car. Everything but and engine is there and it is all new stuff. It will make a great first car for her, It's a great 20/20 car (looks great 20 feet away or at 20 MPH).

vujade June 28th 2005 13:10

well it looks like Scott (BK Prez) found another Notch to go GL with so that
left me with the 62 still. The car has been on the Samba for a week now and
I just struck a deal to trade the 62 Notch for a really nice restoration
(body & Paint) on my new 61 Ragtop. This will save me a ton of money and
get with light years ahead so that I can get this car done and on the road.

Now I will have more resources to build my brothers Notch as a GL. I will
hopefully have it in my possession very shortly. I guess we will just have to
have 2 GL Notches in the club ;)

vujade July 7th 2005 22:16

well no one has bought the 62 yet, so I have been working on a deal
to get the restoration work done on it and turn it into a resto-GL car :D

Hopefully I will have all the details nailed down on it soon

NO_H2O July 7th 2005 23:02

Resto-GL?
Is that a cross between a BK and VKG car? :D

Sort of, but not really. Its sort of what I call those GL's that were
all at bug jam last year. They retain their classicness (if thats even
a word), but they have all the underpinnings of a GL car. I cant see
giving a 62 RHD the full on shaved chrome/monochromatic paint scheme
look.

NO_H2O July 8th 2005 07:07

I agree. I think that is why those guy's from Orlando didn't jump into the VKG (trim rule at that time was painted or shaved).

vujade July 29th 2005 14:30

62 Notch is up for sale on the Samba guys....
