How much lower than stock is your Ghia?

I have a 1970 Ghia that I would like to lower and use Porsche style wheels on. Am I correct in understanding that you have the same offset wheel all around? The 52mm offset wheels?

Do you have any problems with wheels rubbing & such?

Thanks in advance.

What method did you use to lower the car?

What methods and how much did you lower the car? How is the ride quality with the Konis up front and the Bilsteins out back.

Any difference in turning radius?

Thanks in advance.

vujade April 6th 2003 17:31

4Speed, please reply.

DORIGTT August 1st 2003 16:27

Has anyone heard from 4 speed?

vujade August 3rd 2003 13:57

are you talking about this 4speed or the one from Miami with the Silver 67 Beetle?

Neither of them has been seen on the net in a while.
In fact this 4Speed has never even posted here on this forum.

4SPEED August 6th 2003 02:54

DORIGTT September 22nd 2003 21:47

Hey 4SPEED, you're back!

Can you check my earlier posts questioning your methods for developing the car and give me some clue as to what you did?

Thanks in advance.

4SPEED September 23rd 2003 02:37

Now, I have rims in 18 inches on the ghia with holds of 25 mm in front of thus I direct without any concern bilsteins is a very good suspension in firmness and koni enables me to regulate has wish the dureter.

Alex

P.S. with the 17 inches, I did not direct much I touched the suspension arms

DORIGTT September 23rd 2003 11:27

Did you narrow the front axle beam or the rear trailing arms?

Your new wheels are 18" in diameter. How wide are they?
You are saying that they have a 25mm offset?

How did you lower the car?

Thanks in advance.

4SPEED September 24th 2003 03:35

I didn't narrow the front axle beam or the rear trailing arms

I have to cut the wings of the ghia and I put expanders on the body

bye
Alex

DORIGTT September 24th 2003 07:17

What are expanders? Do you have any pictures?

Oh, what size front and rear offset are you using?

Thanks for helping with my Ghia

Racelook September 24th 2003 07:26

Hai dorigtt

Expanders is what he used on his fenders... That's the way he has widers his fenders. (you can see them on his ride, click on the underlined (link) WORD in de first answer in this topic..

4SPEED September 24th 2003 11:50

Thanks;)

DORIGTT September 24th 2003 11:56

I thought so! The rear arches have the little nub that mates with the side trim of the Golf!

SLICK LOOK 4SPEED.

How does it handle now? Do you have any problems with rubbing when turning or anything?

Rodolfo September 24th 2003 17:25

911 engine support

4speed waht type of support you have for the back of that 911 engine?

4SPEED September 25th 2003 03:33

To turn I have any problem.

For the driving support, I manufactured a bar as for type 4

TitoRay November 25th 2003 06:32

DORIGTT November 25th 2003 23:25

WOW!!!:tisktisk: That is definately deviant behavior!

Which powerplant was 4speed running at the time? Please say it wasn't the Porsche engine.

That was cool as can be.

4SPEED November 26th 2003 03:18

max speed

I double has 120 mph and I rolled until A 140 :silly: mph I was not further bus the frame did not follow afterwards!!!!

Since I installed the rims into 18 I did not have the occasion to test maximum speed!

I seek an arch for the karmann!! Know manufacturers?

Heigo ??made it of the arch for Karmann??

Thanks

Alex

I think he's asking if there are any aerodynamic products available for the rear of his ghia to increase downforce. Any suggestions?

Jason

Mikey February 14th 2005 00:47

It's been said already, But.... GREAT CAR! :D a real insperation for other Karmann Ghia.

Were the expanders difficult to install?

Again, The car looks great.

Blue Thunder February 14th 2005 15:02

Ohhh yeah baby, that is absolutely cool!!!

Only one reaction possible:

In french: C'est tres magnifique! Un Karmann avec un moteur de Porsche est un creation superbe... Je suis envieux!!

justdubbin February 14th 2005 21:01

Jason

How about an Audi TT rear spoiler? after all they were specifically designed
to aid rear end stablility at speed

vwdmc16 June 23rd 2006 22:54

Hey 4 speed, your video is down, have another link?

4SPEED June 26th 2006 06:10

Sorry, but no :bawling:

DORIGTT June 26th 2006 07:30

What dimensions did you use for the front strut mount locations?

Did you shorten the framehead or leave it the stock length?

Thanks

vwdevotee April 30th 2007 02:00

For the engine, I saw that you have a 993 TT engine. I'm thinking about doing the same. How well does the engine fit? Did you have to cut any major structures out, or just the deck around the engine? The G50 you have, is it a six speed, or a five speed?

Thanks a lot.
